Re: Randomly determining spells for level 1 characters
Hey Beermotor, this is a nice idea! I may give it a try with my group and see how they like it. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way (ever so slightly) is a PC starting at 1st lvl with a patron spell. I kind of like the idea of the patron giving some assignment/quest in order to prove he/she is...

Re: Working on Gods & Powers of Shanthopal
If you like the work here, you should check out AD&BB when it becomes available later this year. Some samples of the patron write-ups have appeared on my blog at http://ravencrowking.blogspot.ca/ that you might enjoy... I am thinking of trying to put Shanthopal/The Ancient Earth together as a s...

Your list seems really good. It did occur to me, however, that it may be fun to add (if it fits) an alchemist with an unpredictible form of gunpowder

Re: Gamplay Report: Gaming with Joseph Goodman at Pacificon
Awesome write-up! Those are great observations that you made. One of the guys in our party (a butcher who carried his trusty butcher knife with him) failed some roll while under the compulsion of Him That No Grave Can Keep and was informed: “You pull out your butcher knife, extend your right arm, an...

Re: Wizards who never cast spells
Right! If she's failing all her spell checks anyway, why not put on that banded mail and put her short bow proficiency to use? Absolutely! Moreover, the rules-light approach of DCC begs the player to be creative. Rather than trying to go toe-to-toe with the baddies, she can manipulate the environme...

Re: Skill checks involving multiple characters
Anyone with any useful thoughts, please feel free to chime in :-). I will not go so far as to say my thoughts are useful, but I have no problem chiming in :). Like Bilgewriggler, I think the mechanics have to be situational. With that being said, I almost never allow players to "automatically&...

Re: So who here uses mini's in their DCC game?
When I began playing with the blue box and 1E, I just painted the minis without using them for any game mechanics. From 2E onward, I always used minis. Now my group games via VTT and we use tokens. However, at this year's Pacificon I attended one of Joseph Goodman's sessions and we used neither mini...

Re: DCC RPG Alternate Cover #2
A quick update for those looking forward to the alternate cover in October. I will be moving the release date out to December. The good part of this is that the cover will be "unveiled" soon, with the later release date, and that will give some time for the pre-order bonus item to be comp...

Re: Filcher Took! Noooooo!
Doug has this master plan to eventually kill off enough characters to end up with, as he calls it, "an all-girl band." Heh! We'll see how it goes... It seems like a pitty to lose the blond warrior with the "cool" striped pants and the mustache (Hugh?). He is sort of an icon for ...

I admit, the first thing I do upon receiving a new module is flip to the "Death of" image and then flip to the back to see who's joined the lineup. It is good to know that I am not alone in doing this! :) Nope, not alone at all. I love how Ratface Slipshot's amulet is still being carried ...

Poul Anderson eBooks
I'm having an extemely difficult time finding legal ways to obtain eBooks of The Broken Sword, The High Crusade, and Three Hearts and Three Lions in the U.S. The eBooks may be purchased in the U.K. or Australia, but not the U.S. Amazon.co.uk, for example, lists them but then says "Not for sale ...

Ah, friends, thanks for the encouragement. I've been waylaid over here with some Real Life issues that I won't get into too much detail here (but they rhyme with "divorce" and "moving") which have put my home office into storage probably until early to mid October. Major bummer,...

Re: What do you think they'll do for issue #100?
If there is a new DCC RPG setting, I'd like to see something where the new modules (DCC 66 and up) are all placed on a common map and the background settings from those modules blended together into a coherent world. Something like that would be pretty neat, to me. I like this too, finarvyn. By #10...

They added a $15 option for the digital download which was both a better price point for me. Apparently it worked for a a lot of other people as well since it has nearly doubled it's total from this morning!!! Yeah, that is a great option and hopefully it wasn't added too late. I think lots of folk...

Re: Kickstarter for D&D Documentary
Just got an email from Paizo.com asking folks to rally to help out this documentary. This email is coming rather late in the game (only 6 days left). I hope it isn't too late: I hesitated to write this email because I don't want to risk coming off as a shill for every Kickstarter that I see, but a g...

For example, in Privateer Press' award-winning Monsternomicon, one of the critters I created was the unique duo of Gristle & Flay, a skinless supernatural "man" and his animate, tattooed skin (which killed you by suffocation and constriction). Thanks for the heads-up on the Monsternom...
