Re: Multiclassing... would it make godlike characters?
It's always a pleasure to debate somebody who boils your statements down to strawman hyperbole. Good day. This discussion we're having is not going exactly as I would prefer, either. I'm sorry if my comments seem offensive to you, it was not my intent. We obviously disagree on the topic at hand, bu...

Re: Multiclassing... would it make godlike characters?
So you have already failed to answer the question. No, I've answered. I said: you can do any archetypical character with DCC's original 7 classes. The 3E method gave a lot of leeway to character building by providing building blocks, a bit like legos. Now, of course, plasticine (classless systems) ...

Re: Two House Rules
@Skyscraper I think that, on the general case, you are completely right. I just think that, maybe, it might be an interesting option for players to try things that, because they are so risky, have a lower chance of success. However, now that I think of it, maybe this should be done by changing the ...

That said, I still think that specially risky maneuvers might fail on a 3 or a 4. The super-result (i.e. risky manoeuver) might not succeed on a 3 or a 4, but a 3 or a 4 should give something to the character for his efforts. That's what the current rules say, and I repeat that removing that essent...

Re: Multiclassing... would it make godlike characters?
If one of my players brought this up, my very first question would be, "What archetype or character do you want to build that you cannot express with the core classes?" Adding classes or multiclassing options simply adds granularity to the character building process. DCC starts with 7 cla...

The deed die: as I understand it, you're essentially taking out the scale of success (3-7), to instead present a set DC (difficulty check) to the deed, e.g. 3 ro 4 or 5 with a binary result: it works or it doesn't, and the result is discussed between player and judge (presumably utlimately decided b...

Re: dear dungeon doctor
Still a bit new to DCC (4 sessions as DM and a bit of online play as a player), here's what I think. DCC allows for a very different playstyle that 3E or 4E. I've had a lot of fun with 3E and 4E. Just different things. In 3E, for a fight to be challenging, you need to have enough monsters of suffici...

Re: Character age
Currently playing through Jewels of the Carnifex with my group, and it's a lot of fun from a traps perspective. One character, one of the clerics, hit the age-gas trap to the tune of +49 years... so he's probably about 69-70 now. The module recommends consulting the AD&D DMG as to what effects ...

Re: Half-Levels
Take a closer look at the chart....2 spells if you take 1/2 level. Every half level is intended to be "kinda" worth taking, and, once you've taken it, going on to the full level is also "kinda" worthwhile. Just enough to suck you in, so that you are a third level Thief 1/Wizard ...

Oh, this is not related to the topic, right?

Re: Half-Levels
This looks like a very interesting rule. Question: I'm unsure what the "caster level 0" refers to in the class descriptions. I assume you mean this to be effective for a half-level taken in a given class, is that correct? This means that a level 1 warrior who takes a half level in wizard i...

I'm hoping to experience many different systems over the years. I used to be a D&D-only guy for years. 1E for 20 years, then 3E, 3.5 and 4E for the last 10. Somewhere in those last ten years, I also started finding others systems, other games: Cthulhu, Warhammer, Paranoia, Star Wars, a couple of...

Re: How much treasure?
After three sessions of the funnel, the PCs in my game found their first 11 silver pieces. They hooted and cheered! The most interesting find was probably two bows and 8 arrows, looted on bandits. They did find two magic books (the nature of which is unknown to them presently), and one they gave to ...

I am still in the funnel of my first adventure both as a player (online) and DMing (tabletop) so I have no actual experience yet of the in-betweens. For the game I DM, I don't know what I'll do yet because I want to see how the funnel adventure ends before deciding on anything; but my initial idea i...

Re: Extra occupation as a racial trait?
That's a pretty interesting idea Finarvyn. You'll have to let us all know how that works out if you go through with it. My group would likely be disappointed by that approach when rolling scores less than 9 and developing the negative modifiers to go with them. Being zero level for a while with the...

I love the advantage/disadvantage rule, probably the single most promising thing in 5E that I've seen. I also like the dice chain mechanic a lot. Both are simple, fun ways that take replaces some math (no need to add substract bonuses or penalties) and simply give the player some dice (or a die) to ...

Re: How do you define min/max?
Intelligent discussion here, that had my brain dust out this rerun topic :) I think that min-maxing is like pornography: you know it when you see it, as the saying goes. It comes down to the general feel of the game and how much you stray away from it IMO. Table-top RPGs are mostly games where you h...
