Re: Wandering monsters
That's what makes a tabletop game much more interesting than an online one... there's the possibility of the sort of morality lesson that you might learn from reading a good novel. You ain't gonna get that on WoW, EQ, or whatever. I'm completely stealing this idea too, btw. Guess mine maybe won't be...

Re: Limited Edition Metal Covers!
I got my copy of the rulebook today, it's pretty badass. But it seems that Doom of the Savage Kings is stuck inside it? anyone know if it's supposed to be removable or if it's bound into the book? Mine was totally removable... There was some of that gummy stuff that I refer to as artificial sn*t ho...

Interesting, never heard that. Well, writing it certainly works for me, much better than typing. Which is weird. Probably because I type like I talk.

Have they SEEN the power curve?? There's a goodly jump from 0 to 1, but then it's pretty flat from there... should be plenty of "peons versus Cthulhu" feelings even at level 1 and 2.dstack wrote: "Do we have to level up at the end of this?"

Yeah but it's subjective and situational. It's not supposed to be quantifiable, let alone reliably.

Re: How do you interpret the chaotic alignment?
Can you expand on your campaign's approach to divinity? I'd like to hear more about it, if you feel like sharing. Just a bit of DM background: far, far future, humanity captured by powerful aliens or maybe this chunk of humanity was imprisoned or something on a planet that's sort of Earthlike, two ...

Re: How do you interpret the chaotic alignment?
Thanks for all the great comments! I take from many posters that they actually do not really use alignment within their games, or rather that they might use it, but to a very limited extent, leaving concrete PC penalties for behaving out of alignment out of the game. Here are a few questions or com...

I've never been to DragonCon proper, but wondering if there's much gaming that actually goes on there. It seems to be more of a cosplay festival, heh.

Yeah, combination of good stamina bonus and a good roll for hps, plus low damage rolls... very good luck.

How are you doing this, anyway? Color printer I hope... I mean, you're not painting/airbrushing this crap on standard cardstock and gluing it together yourself are you? If so, you must be independently wealthy... cannot imagine the time cost!

Re: All those tables...
There's a lot of statistics that show that you remember stuff much better when you write it out (even more than typing). I'd encourage them to recopy the spell information in their own words, too, tables and all. I mean, you don't get that many, right? Plus you get a cool prop and stuff. Even if a 1...

Re: How do you interpret the chaotic alignment?
Even "mostly" selfish characters, let alone predominately selfish characters, will have a very hard time sticking around in a group for very long. Ultimately, they'll very likely develop loyalties and personal relationships with other characters. Put them into a situation of having to choo...

BUT, and it's a big but, you can "quest" for stat increases. Wanna be lucky? Go collect three leprechaun ears, dry them beneath the midsummer sun, then crush and powder them into dust, sprinkle into an iron bracelet as it's being poured into the mold. Voila, +1 luck. And Gods help you if y...

Re: All those tables...
Welcome, Hogscape! When your PCs start getting spells, I'd suggest photocopying the spell tables for them. (Or printing from the PDF, if you have it.) The players can bind their own spell books, they have a cool prop, and it takes some of the work off your plate. (Plus there is a real sense of acco...

Put a colored "flag" sticky note on the page with the background profession table, and put another one on the equipment table. That's all you need tabbed to start the game. I printed a 30-some-odd page of cheat sheet tables prepared by someone else that I found online, it's got the critica...

Re: Burning LUCK before a roll ??
Agree w/ TND... I don't think this rule is problematic and the way it's written was probably the result of playtesting focus groups. I'd be willing to be a fair amount of money that they started out with having to say you're burning luck before a roll. Not sure what Beta rules said, I'm a latecomer....

Speaking of this, I picked up a gold foil cover handbook from eBay this morning for $55 plus shipping. Figured it was a reasonable deal since it includes a copy of the Doom, which you can't get anywhere else yet. Also, I'm selling off all my old 3.x crap. Because, ... well, that should be obvious! Re: Gygax pre-"Appendix N"
Lovecraft is not a good writer. I mean this purely on an aesthetic level. His ideas are good, he knows how to set a mood, but his characters are flat and he can't write dialogue. Lovecraft writes in a mode that's half Gothic and half Icelandic Saga... sort of 18c. newspaper style. Some of the longe...
