Re: Homebrew Rule: The Songs of the Bards
Much like OD&D, DCC seems to encourage, strongly, hirelings and followers. Basically, your players should be leveling up a few chars, because as you point out, death can be frequent. Remember that the XP mechanic is much different from OD&D and AD&D, which helps deal with the frequent de...

Re: Selling loot...
I spruced up the table for a future issue of CRAWL! It should do the trick nicely, requires less brainpower for the judge and could lead to FUN(tm).

Re: Writing DCC Adventures: What's been done to death?
"Arise, thread, and serve me!" On the "Tentacles != Lovecraftian Horror" idea, I wanted to add, really HPL is basically only about fear of the dark. What's in the dark? Who knows? Nobody knows, I mean KNOWS knows. Sure, we have our ideas, we expect things to be more or less as we...

Not sure what forum software this is, but it probably doesn't have that feature standard. There may be a plug in, but the admin would have to check and see. It's probably not a bad idea although, of course, plugins are all potential security risks heh.

I've been playing Hackmaster for the past several years and was in an extended campaign for HMB. Once you get used to the initiative you begin to wonder why don't other games use the count up. It was a little wonky at first but over time it just "clicked" and made a heck of a lot more sen...

Random Esoteric Creature Generator
Hey are there any plans to reprint this as a hardback, like the Dungeon Alphabet? Although I read a review on Amazon that said he'd have preferred a digest-sized booklet (similar to CRAWL! ?). Just wondering. Was about to order a copy, but not particularly thrilled that it seems to be perfectbound i...

Nice! And for those lucky souls with negative personality modifiers: 0 You insult the shopkeeper with your copper-grubbing haggling. Painting minis was fun when I was a bachelor. That was, uh, a loooong time ago now.
Count me in on being interested in a set of O-FFICIAL DCC RPG dice. Would be cool if they had some interesting old school graphics on them, too... skulls on the 1s of d20s and d6s, maybe?

Re: Selling loot...
Unless something was important, interesting, or seriously expensive (and so possibly an adventure opportunity in its own right), I'd simply have the players make a few relevant Personality rolls. My general baseline is they get a third of the item's value, marked down or up depending on the conditi...

Re: Crits and fumbles are too frequent.
I've had monsters fumble as much as the players have, collectively. One poor guy has fumbled every single attack roll he's made so far, which is kind of an amusing study in statistical outliers.

Re: Selling loot...
There has to be a happy medium. The problem with only selling stuff that has plot significance is that gives players a heads up about items. Of course I think the guy who said selling loot is boring has a valid point. Not sure how ill handle it... buying stuff in pre-game was very free form and I en...

I've kinda been thinking about doing a DragonLance conversion via the AD&D sourcebook. Classes would be: Warrior (Knight of Solamnia would get their own 1st level quest to join the Knights) Thief Wizard* (get their own 1st-level quest, the Test of High Sorcery, alignment choice determines robe c...

Re: On theives and familiars)....
In an OD&D game I played a cleric who opened a magic book that summoned a familiar from a random table. 2d6, I think I rolled 11, and in flies a pseudodragon, probably the best familiar in AD&D/OD&D. Heh.
That extra 2d8 hps, plus all the other powers, really helped out at level 1.
