Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?
Ok, I've decided on using LL as my base ruleset and I'll be slowly adding in some DCC elements as we go. Hopefully we'll learn more details about the rules as we get closer to the release of the playtest rules and when that finally happens I'll transition the game fully to the new game. First off, I...

Re: Another Contest Idea for DCC RPG: Monsters!
Great idea -can't wait for the Thark fumble table - 'all 4 arms in a knot' What's a DCCrpg statblock gonna look like ? It might be kind of a pain if each monster has it's own crit and fumble tables. I'm hoping that there will just be some tables per type of monster like one for humanoids and goblin...

Re: The DCC RPG and Spellslinging
Wizards are scarce, and the few there are guard their secrets jealously. My favorite conception of a fantasy game world is exactly this. If a wizard were to walk into town -- and people discovered he was a wizard -- he might be run out of town (or worse) by afeared and angry villagers, or they migh...

Re: Appendix N, again
How much will the flavor of the Appendix N books really color the game? Take the cleric for example. Its a staple of D&D, but I'll be damned if I've ever read of any character in a sword & sorcery book that sounded like one. Priests yes, but none that wore armor and used maces. And hardly an...

Re: Contest for brand new campaign world for DCC
I'd like to see Aereth done in the wilderlands style- you know, zoomed down to 5 mile hexes and focused on a smaller area around a big city. Campaign settings that give you whole worlds or continents don't help me very much. Like politics- all campaigns are local.

All valid points mshensley. True. I know I came across a little "strong" so hopefully nobody took offense. None was intended! No problem. The only time I've felt that prebuying a game was worthwhile was with the DragonAge game from GR. They made it worth doing by giving you the pdf immedi...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?
The DCC RPG character creation is simple and straightforward much like older editions of D&D and d20 based games. The main differences are in the critical hits and magic system both which uses charts to give variable results. The closest game that emulates that is Rolemaster. Since the original...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?
To be honest the closest in feel would be 1st edition Rolemaster used as an AD&D supplement. You can get reprints on RPGNow or at the company website. For AD&D you can use OSRIC. You may be able to merge Rolemaster Arm and Spell Law with 3.X. Good lord, I hope it's not that complicated. :sh...

Really? The PDF likely won't be until September or October. Pre-paying is called "a leap of faith." :: shrugs :: I feel like I can rely on Joseph to create a worthy product based on my past experiences with Goodman Games, and...I suppose others don't feel that. Too bad. The more pre-order...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?
WFRP 1 or 2. The spell fail tables are similar to what Mr. Goodman has outlined here. And magic is ultra rare. And dangerous. I think I may have a friend with WFRP, or if not I may hit e-bay to look at the spell fail tables. Can you tell me the difference between the spell fail tables of 1E and 2E?...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?
I still own WFRP1 and I have noticed that the DCC game has some sort of career thing going on. I remember something about halfling gypsies for one. The bad thing is that WFRP1 is in no way mechanically similar to a d20 game. No classes, no levels, and everything is a d100 roll under. So I really don...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?
Yeah, I'm not going to worry about spell tables and crit charts. I'm mainly just concerned with classes and races. I don't want to start a game with someone running a half-elf magic-user/thief or a halfling ranger and then find out later that it would pretty much impossible to convert.

what game is most like the DCC RPG?
I will probably be starting up a new campaign for my group in the next week or two and I've been trying to decide what system I want to use. I'd love to be able to start running the DCC rpg but apparently that won't be possible for some time now. So the next best thing would be to run something that...

Re: GENCON 2011 and DCC RPG
Nope, DCC RPG is slated for release in November 2011. It's a long ways away. And my family reunion on my mom's side is always right around Gen Con - and next year is the same weekend as Gen Con - so I unfortunately won't be at Gen Con 2011 anyway! Ugh... I was hoping it was coming much sooner than ...

Re: Suggestions for Story-Driven Adventures
I asked Dragonhelm about what he means by story based and was told: Well, something that when played out, comes across like a short story in a book. Something with fantastic locales, NPCs. Dragonlance's Age of Mortals trilogy is a good example. What I'm not looking for is tactical adventures. Oh, s...

No worries, already on it. A boxed set with weird dice would be sweet. Put an Erol Otus cover on it and include a DCC module like the old B1 or B2 inside and you'll have a winner. :) And speaking of the dice thing, I started a poll about it over on rpg.net here last night- http://forum.rpg.net/show...

Re: Anaheim Mini-Con
Remember when you were a kid and all those unusual polyhedrons were COOL? Before they became "just dice"? DCC RPG feels that way, when you reach for your d5, d16, or d24. You need the "standard dice"...plus a few more. It's fun. And applying your normal attack modifier to a d16 ...

Re: Anaheim Mini-Con
As for the mechanics, the core mechanic is a d20 roll, kind of like 3E. Except occasionally it's a d16 or d24 instead of a d20. I like Zocchi dice. :) urgh...this seems like a very bad idea. The last thing I want to hear from a game is that I need special dice or a deck of cards or something unusua...
