Re: Another Contest Idea for DCC RPG: Monsters!

The good thing is that she has the right attitiude, and that rolling a 1 is just part of the game. When bad things happen she just shrugs it off and keeps playing. This game could be an interesting test of her mental fortitude... That's one of the good things about playing an old school game...

There's also a good article in issue 10 of the Dragon on this subject- D&D Option: Orgies, Inc. ;)

Also, check out the town tables in Warhammer Quest sometime. There's a lot of hilarious things in there.

Re: Experience

Quite a lot of the heroes in S&S stories are motivated by greed, so I think xp for gold is appropriate. I also think that xp should be gained for exploring and visiting new places. Many of the appendix N characters wandered quite a bit and xp gain is a way to motivate characters to do that as we...

Re: Healing and clerics

I'm hoping for stuff like this. I wrote this for spicing up Raise Dead spells a couple of years ago: Roll 1d12. 1. Fails utterly - body putrefies horribly and becomes a black ooze. 2. Something else comes through - (1d4) 1-Demon, 2-Invisible Stalker, 3-Shadow, 4-Wraith. 3. Body possessed by demon. 4...

Ha! I never noticed that before. My own module, Fungoid Gardens of the Bone Sorcerer exactly fits the format of "[Place] of the [Monster Name]". Don't worry, you're in good company. It really is from Appendix N. How about Conan in The Tower of the Elephant or The Pool of the Black One ?

Short Review of DCC #59 Mists of Madness

I wrapped up my second D&D 4e session in Goodman Games Mists of Madness adventure module last week. It's a full module by Harley Stroh that only costs $2 (disclaimer- I bought the pdf during a recent sale at rpgnow for even less :) ) and is for 1st level parties which is just what I needed. It i...

Re: Reading Appendix N

Just finished Poul Anderson's The High Crusade. It was a very good and quick read. It's a great example of how the writing of novels (and rpgs) has changed over the years. Just compare this book (192 pages) with the very similar story (aliens land on earth in the past) in the World War novels by Tur...

Re: Races as Classes

In the same way that the core rules don't include a ranger or barbarian or bard, they don't include differentiation of "demi-human subclasses." But such material can be easily integrated by those who wish to do so. As a long time fan of basic D&D, I don't really have an issue with rac...

Re: Difference between C&C and DCC?

Ouch. I take it you're not a C&C guy, eh Mike? I really wanted to like C&C. I was a playtester, bought the white box, and bought the first two printings. Even when my group laughed at how horribly edited the game was, I still wanted to run it. But after BFRPG came out and showed that...

Re: Difference between C&C and DCC?

From what I've seen so far:

DCC will be in one book, not 2 or 3.

DCC will have better art than C&C.

GG actually knows how to run spellchecker.

GG modules are a lot better than the ones TLG makes.

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?

I just ordered it on amazon.co.uk :) I just finished reading it and The Seventh Expert. Both are geared towards kids (middle school level) but are still pretty good and quick reads that are chock full of info about medieval life. I especially liked The Seventh Expert as it is a game where you have ...

Blasphemy! You are such a heretic! How could you even suggest ... nay, how could you even think about using dice other than d6's for character generation? The last time I had to roll up a character I was caught unprepared and only had one d6 with me. Instead of going through the hassle of rolling t...

I can't wait to see some more of the art for this. I was surprised that you didn't go with an Otus cover though. Of course, maybe that would make it look too D&Dish.

Re: Ability Scores

I do not like the stat progression of 3e and 4e. But Everyone is familiar with it. Its part of the language of D&D now. One way I was thinking of mitigating the possibility of +4 bonuses early is to use 4d4 for stat generation. It has a bigger curve in the middle that ends up right at 10 and 11...

Re: Ability Scores

I don't have a problem with the 3e method for stat bonuses. It's simple enough to remember without a chart and lots of people are familiar with it. The only problem with it IMO was due to the stat inflation caused by the 4d6 method of stat gen or point buys. And personally I'd prefer that there are ...

I still don't see how this could give you anywhere near a fair distribution. The flat sides are enti...

Just get all your weird numbered dice in a color that you don't have, like hot pink, and they'll be easy to find when you need them.

Re: Question about Atribute bonuses, AC and Hit Points

Rules that do not affect game play should simply not exist. Rules that the players will never encounter should simply never be published. There was far too much complexity in 3E which simply had no impact on game play. I could run a game where the orc had the exact right stat block, and run another...

Aahh... here's a cube die numbered 1-3 twice-

http://www.gamestation.net/s.nl/it.A/id.3414/.f

and apparently Koplow makes a cheaper d5, d16, d24, and d30.

If you want to make a cheap set to go with this game, you might want to talk to them.

Re: Zocchi Dice - Seek out or own or for sale here?

$20 for 6 dice is pretty steep. (and that 7 sider is fugly - i don't even see how that one works) I don't understand the need for a different shape for each die type either. Why don't they just use a cube for the d3 and number 1-3 twice? They could do the same with a d10 for the d5 and a d14 for the...
