Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?
I'm already running a level 0 funnel adventure. I think that by the end of tomorrow session they'll reach the end of the dungeon, the big baddie and take the loot. After that I'm planning on playing the AD&D Desert of Desolation adventure (it's actually three modules, one after the other), adapt...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
Hey, I would use magic if I could!! Even if I had a 1% chance of actually casting "Fly" or "Invisibility" on myself................ HELL, I'D SO GO FOR IT!! And I don't think I'm a stark ravid mad lunatic  Even with the 5% chance of rolling on that corrupt...

Re: Homebrew Spells and Conversions
Thanks for taking a look. I like those suggestions. I'll change Flame of the Forge to a ranged touch attack and remove the saving throw. For prayer, I totally forgot about that alignment thing, as alignment is something we usually ignore in our games, but in this case, it makes sense. My only conce...

Re: Bards, Warlords and Burning Personality.
+d14  I think that balance in the end relies in the DM's hands. If a character has 18 Luck for quite a while, you might pose him in a danger or two where he has to burn luck to survive. That way you'll bring it back to a reasonable 13-14 in no time. Besides, it's a player's choice: if you'd ra...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
So on average, he will be able to cast his starting six spells a total of 7 times. I'm talking about the insanity of using "magic" to start with. It fails 40+% of the time. That's crazy. What tool do you use of a continuing basis that fails outright (and can't be used again) for 24-hours ...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
, could we not allow Wizards a saving throw (with level as a positive DM) at the time they level up? That way, there is the corruption to deal with whilst at that level (and all its associated roleplaying opportunities), the possibility of removing the corruption and so not further/continually hind...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
I think he was more concerned for the fidelty to Appendix N characters than for the rules... By the way, I don't like wizards to be proficient with longbows and longswords. Shortsword and shortbows, maybe. Longbows really boggled me, is there anyone in Appendix N that actually uses them as a wizard...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
Why not play an elf then? With wizards as xbow wielding dart throwing ranger types they're be no need for warriors except in melee. I don't see this type of wizard in Appendix N. Maybe better suited for a classless system. The wizard has enough options, to allow him such expertise would make it eve...

Re: Bards, Warlords and Burning Personality.
It's like : 1st chance: LUCK, following chances SAVES. The only problem I can see is having a character with a high Luck modifier whose Luck roll is better than his Save. I gave my interpretation of this in the above post. This way a character with horrible saves could survive a couple of times, ju...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic
Since we are just brainstorming... How about something like this: 1. Spell levels will be reclassified 1-10 2. If casting a spell from a spell > your character level, normal DCC casting rules apply with the chance of corruption automatically increasing on a natural 1+level difference between spell ...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic
I also like your ideas a lot. Not Dumb at all. Revoicing some of the cries that i've read here and there... if we get White Magic, and Black Magic, we could get rid of spell levels as we know them, since we have a new way of categorizing spells. I'd tune Magic Missile down a bit, or move it to...

Re: Bards, Warlords and Burning Personality.
That's a great use of Luck. Advice to that effect should be in the Judge's section. But at what point do Luck checks encroach on Saving Throws? By the way, I forgot to mention, I'd use Luck Checks also to determine things that maybe the player forgot to specify. example: DM:Suddenly, the wall crumb...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
And it would be really easy for those that don't want levels to remove them and just use the difficulties as is, so I wonder why we are even debating this? Stellar point! The only rules change related to this that would impact things is how Corruption vs. Spell Fumbles is handled. In some form I'd ...

Re: Bards, Warlords and Burning Personality.
This is just one example of how I think having Luck listed as a "stat" (even though it really isn't) can confuse people in a big way. It's really a pool of hero points. Not a stat. If the Lucky Roll really does get moved to a straight +1, this separation of function will become even great...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
to prevent the accumulation of huge bonuses, there could be a rule that allows only a number of external bonuses to spellchecks equal to (or less) than your INT+Caster Level. I'd allow Spellburn out of this. This way, a 1st level, 18 INT wiz would have +4 to spellchecks, could get bonuses up to +8.....

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
They've got spells for being super-heroes, already... why would you want to give them extra abilities? Maybe the idea that wizards aren't corrupted and tempted at any small incantation they perform might be the impression we, common peasant, got by hearing their tales. Maybe even the real lives of t...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
I mean, if you're worried about a wizard player quitting because you're just roleplaying lots of people hunting him down as an aberration (something like Dragon Age: Origins), and he doesn't want to bear the consequences of his reckless abuse of magic, you're better off without him. No, I'm worried...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
So a simple spell like Cantrip causes corruption on a result of 3 or less. Fireball causes corruption on an 8 or less, etc. This of course means that fumbles will often cause corruption as well, although not necessarily for a higher level wizard. Likewise, the threshold for any successful effect ge...

Re: Options for non-mages
Yeah, no. It's unfortunate that Wizards (and Elves) only have access to 716 spells. Aren't 716 enough ? The more spells - the more get unused - I see this with feats in 3.5/Pathfinder - players rely on the same old tactics, their optimized chain of feats, otherwise it slows the game to a crawl as t...

Re: The Dryad Tree - A Level 1 Playtest & FRPG Day folllow-u
Should any player have more than 1 PC at the end, I was thinking I would have them level up all these PCs, then depart for the next adventure with one of their choice. I think it detracts from rp to act as more than one character. That's what I did. And it turned out to be lucky, since that player ...

Re: The Implied Setting of the DCC RPG
I don't think there's much of a defined setting. Just bear in mind this is supposed to be a grittier fantasy medieval world than 3E or 4E. It seems to be a low-power setting, without many Elminster, God-like people. There might be an Elminster, but he'd just be level 10 not level 40! :P maybe if you...

Re: The Dryad Tree - A Level 1 Playtest & FRPG Day folllow-u
Nice report. How is it to play with more than one 1st level PCs per player? I'm still playtesting with a 0-level party of about 12 PCs... Should any player have more than 1 PC at the end, I was thinking I would have them level up all these PCs, then depart for the next adventure with one of their ch...
