Re: Unsatisfied player... how to deal with that?
... the room in which the false scepter was found: 15x15 ft square room, pentagram on the pavement, scepter on a stand, CRACKED HUMAN BONES EVERYWHERE, DRIED UP BLOODSTAINS ON THE STAND.... I'm going to use a lasso to try to snare the scepter. *rolls a die* That would've been a nice attempt!...

Deal with a Patron ...
One of my players has got out of the funnel adventure the worst of his PCs: Ararose, 68 yo jeweler, STR 4, AGI 7, STA 6, PER 8, INT 13, LUCK 6. Not having many options, with just one ability with a positive modifier, he went for becoming the Wizard of the party. Now, we thought that said character c...

Re: Unsatisfied player... how to deal with that?
Whenever I have a straight-up death trap in an adventure, I always give it a "fair-warning". In the case of the false scepter, I might've seeded a rumor in the dungeon or in the legends about the dungeon that could point out the truth of the false scepter. It can be frustrating for a play...

Re: Unsatisfied player... how to deal with that?
Have the dead PC become a town legend with a grave marker & all. As the game progresses, find ways to return the PCs to their home town and be sure to note the grave is kept up. Then, later, you could have the grave dug up by followers of a nasty cult, giving them a great adventure, hunting for...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
I don't want the characters balanced or even equally important. I just don't want a thief that normally does 1-6 damage per round able to make that 11-166 (or more) for an insta-kill. That's not their role (and yes I know they have backstab but that's too take out the mook guards they encounter but...

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?
I like everything in the post above. That's how I was going to run the game anyway. At the end of the funnel adventure, the main "usable" treasure the PCs found were 2 healing potions. Healing potions that heal 1d6+1 HP (they don't know that - they will know after having drunk the first on...

Re: Unsatisfied player... how to deal with that?
Unless he's a power gamer who is attached to good stats, I can't see how any one character would have become so favorite so quickly. At least, not to the extreme that you seem to be telling us about. It's not like he played the character for a few weeks and then it died. We're talking about one ses...

Unsatisfied player... how to deal with that?
Hi, I just finished running a 0-level, funnel adventure. Well, you can find a detailed REPORT on how the game played here http://www.goodman-games.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=15483 What happened is that everyone was happy and satisfied with the game and they all had a great time with the fun...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
oh cmon i don't think it's right to pit different classes against each other.. you should check how they work together... It doesn't matter who's stronger between warrior and thief, what matters i that they are not redundant. The warrior has the best hps, armor and damage. He's the front liner. The ...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
To me, lower-level wizards being able to try to cast high-level spells, but it being a dangerous thing to do, feels more like magic in most fiction (Mickey Mouse as the sorcerer's apprentice for example). No one listens to me when I say this. No spell levels!! I do! Only we need spell eff...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
It also puts it all on one chart which is nice, less "handling time". Finally you can put corruption on the spells that really deserve it (it does have a place in this game, just not so prevalent) but all of them have their own set of drawbacks. No spell is without risk. I like this as we...

Re: Game vs. Story
Another example I just observed: Here in the forum in the DCC Playtest Magic section, in the "Limiting" Corruption thread, one member said they'd gladly dabble in magic while another countered with a query of "With a 5% corruption chance, you'd have to be crazy". Which points at...

Re: Caves of the Black Scepter - first & second session with
I ran the second, and final, session of my little funnel adventure. Just before entering a corridor three of the PCs risked getting killed by a 4-arrows trap. Only 1 got killed, having 1 HP, the other 2 dodged the attack. The PCs slaughtered 8 goblins by using a half-barrel of some oily substance to...

By the way, it's not that hard to adapt adventures to your game: i'm about to play Castle Amber, The Desert of Desolation and Tomb of Horrors in DCC RPG, it's not that hard to get what's important to keep and what you can change. How are you converting the levels in DCC RPG with Tomb of Horrors and...

Re: Critical Hits with dice other than d20
I agree the whole concept of two weapon fighting in such an abstracted system is a bit sketchy - my experience from using two weapons in 'actual' fighting is that each of the two weapons just assume more 'defensive' duties to compensate for the lack of a shield. It does provide a bit more offensive...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
I assume one is not entirely bound to one path? As such any wizard can cast Illusion? Of course not! I would allow each wizard upon reaching 1st level to choose how many of the 4 spells he's supposed to get will be rolled randomly from the White Table and how many from the Dark Table. Maybe Elves, ...

In my opinion it should be something you are faced with when a Wizard seeks power they should not have, or allies with forces best left outside this world: -Want to spell burn to cast beyond your normal limits? Chance of corruption. -Want to cast summon monster? Chance of corruption. -Want to cast ...

I am saying I like the ability for the fun, tense situations it allows. It's just a bit of flavour that's all.

Fear the halfling 8) Anyway, the game is not broken, but you just have a nice escape route to have that player feel rewarded. I mean, if you really wanted to kill the whole party, nothing could stop you. If you're using sleep, and targeting everyone (if there's no elf, you can wait for one target to...

they already got high Will Saves. That represents their affinity with magic and their ability to better dodge its nasty effects. I don't know, it's never been a problem... how often does that immunity come up in your game? IT's more likely that it will come up for an NPC elf the PCs are up against (...

Re: "Funky Dice" DCC-themed Dice Roller
I would suggest a new layout, like an empty square box in the centre where you drag dice. I'd like if it could keep the previous rolls in the box if i don't press a clear button (like, i roll 1d6, then roll another 1d6, without the previous one disappearing); furthermore, having it randomly change c...
