Re: Random Encounter Table ...?
Okaay! I Think I see where your going now. I had in mind more 1st Ed Harpies with there hypnotic song and far more Hp than you were envisaging. The table might even be a tad under-powered then. My apologies for mistaking your intent. You might even get the surprise I did when my group of mixed 1st ...

Re: again about MDoA ...
Speaking of MDoAs, have you guys been playing that you only roll the attack die once each round and apply it to every attack (even the dwarf shield attack)? I don't like that since all of the MDoA will succeed or all fail. To me it would make more sense to reroll the attack die with every attack. A...

Re: "Wizard's apprentice" and spells (Quick Question)
It is like playing Cops & Robbers as a kid. "Bang, I shot you!" "No you didn't." And since one of them is the DM, he gets to always be right. Agreed completely. Maybe playing with no dice rolling, no sheets can be ok for a casual 2 hour game, if you and your players just wan...

Re: DCC RPG Funnel Feedback
I've had a similar, if more positive, experience with the funnel. One of my players elected a "favourite" among his Zeroes (despite I did strongly advise against such practice). That pc died in the second last room of the dungeon, in the deadliest trap, together with other 3 PCs. He resent...

Re: Random Encounter Table ...?
I like the table, but am not a fan of "no encounter" because I always roll a die to see if there is an encounter or not, then roll to see what it is. Clearly yours is designed to cut out that extra roll, but often my encounter check is more like 1/6 or 2/6 per day whereas yours is 7/10. I...

Re: "Wizard's apprentice" and spells (Quick Question)
+d30 like that post :D But you can play that way only with genuine, good players. I'm afraid we need some kind of "affects X creatures for Y rounds" because we need some common ground... what if a player asks for something that's beyond the idea of that spell ("i cast magic shield und...

Re: Random Encounter Table ...?
EEek! You table scares the Hell out of me for 2nd level.. Does that help? No seriously 1d3 Harpies? That's the Killer unless the party have really good missile users its deadly out in the open. ONE Harpy properly played would be interesting methinks Contrariwise the Wolves seems under powered. But ...

Re: Types of magic in fantasy.
The price may be related to the possibility of magic being too powerful to contain or of changing the nature of the spellcaster in ways that reflect the "good" higher realms but are as equally troublesome as corruption. Like your eyes now shine with continual light, your skins burns every...

Random Encounter Table ...?
I don't know how things should be handled in DCC RPG, but for my playtesting adventures i figured it would be nice to have some random encounter table, just because it gives me that "old d&d" flavour - in my 3E adventures every encounter was part of the story, or was already planned so...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed
i don't see them happening too often, since they 1) don't have huge chances (1/6 to say with d5) 2) the dice you're simulating are not widely used: you might have to roll a d5 not more than 3-4 times a session, and that's if the warrior is level 3 and uses it for MDoA I mean, i hated to roll a d14 o...

Re: again about MDoA ...
Yes, DCC is firmly in the territory where for many, many situations numbers don't tell you what happens -- your brain tells you what happens. i'm sorry, i tend to like written rules over "just improvise" and i forget this is DCC not D&D, a different beast altogether. I think i will pe...

Re: again about MDoA ...
But wouldn't that dragon look dumb if a 5th level warrior kept tripping it with just a 3?! I'd like that warrior to trip and disarm goblins like they were plastic figurines, but doing that with a boss i would like him to need at least a 7!bholmes4 wrote:Too cumbersome for little reward imo.

Re: again about MDoA ...
Maybe some kinds of enemies should have a different effect on receiving MDoA!? So you want to add an MDoA defense score to everything? It's a great idea but I don't think it will gain traction. You need to internalize the die roll to the fighter. Or, we just find out the class die is d3=1st level, ...

Re: Demi-human classes...
I've already volunteered but I worry when Joe wonders why we aren't reading mind about what is missing from this beta. The problem is the beta is still not complete enough to really write new material with any sense of system authority. I'm planning to start with the gnome (knee high to a human) an...

Re: Quick Question
But what if you don't roll wizard's apprentice and want to be a wizard? Or worse you do roll wizard's apprentice but go with your strength attribute and decide to become a fighter? Has anyone then come up with a way to simulate class related training for 0 level pcs? Say I roll a gravedigger who ha...

Re: again about MDoA ...
But look at what a 7 does on the MDoA charts just imagine what you can do with an 11 or 12... The same thing you did with a 7. At least, that's how it's reading to me. Maybe some kinds of enemies should have a different effect on receiving MDoA!? For example a warrior could impose a penalty equal t...

Re: On average, how many goblins.....
be careful when deciding that, based on the calculations on this thread, since 5 goblins is ok against a warrior, then 10+ goblins are ok against a 1st level party (5 against warrior, 3 against cleric, 2 against thief, 1 against wizard).... goblins with ranged weapons (50% of goblins of a small patr...

Re: again about MDoA ...
And how much playtesting have you given this idea? :) Hello, i'm back after playtesting. Despite my fears, the Dwarf player didn't feel nerfed at all, he enjoyed "the choice" he had to make when fighting: more damage or specific strategic advantage!? They were fighting 3 cultists so he de...

Re: Gamestation Dice came today and I am sad
Yeah that's a good idea, buying the next higher die type and reject-sampling the results. You could dispense with d3 and d5, using d4 and d6. d16 fills the role of d14, too. and d30 fills the role of d24. I decided to buy the d3 and d5 because their use is a lot more frequent than that of a d14 or ...

Re: Gamestation Dice came today and I am sad
hi everyone. I bought at theDiceShopOnline.com some of the dice i needed : i won't bother with the perfect randomness of gamestation dice. I bought a d3 (d6 numbered 123 twice), a d5 (d10 numbered 12345 twice), a d16 (looks pretty as hell, my favourite die!) which i use also as d14, d24 and d30. The...

Re: What happens when a (n)th level character dies?
I already know that my players will not like having to start again from level 0; some may threaten to stop playing altogether. However I feel the "shields shall be splintered" houserule will come in handy when we need a Zero to survive. I'm thinking that good armor, shield and sling would ...

Re: Cleric Spells and "Class Die"
Playtested last night using the Faith Die table as above. 1- the cleric player was enthusiast about getting to roll a special die too :D 2- he enjoyed the tidal "going-up-going-down" of penalties, instead of having a flat -1 cumulative penalty. 3- losing Lay-on-hands for the day provided a...

i playtested (1st level party) last night the wizard class die as follows. Spellcheck : d20 +d3 + (INT mod) Spell Loss : if result of Class die < (spell level +2) Spell DC : unchanged It worked fine. Having 33% chance of being able to keep the spell and cast it again made the wizard a little more ca...
