Re: Monster exp done yet?
I'd like to see progression every 3 or 4 sessions. My group had a super short (2-hour) session last night, and there was tons of role-playing and three fights. A ton of things happen in Old-School play, but it was the third session and they're still Zeroes. With the rate of XP I've been giving them,...

Re: Just reading through the rules and I am loving the DCC R
I finally figured out what to call this: Race as Race. Just because DCCRPG uses Race as Class does not prevent DCCRPG from ALSO using Race as Race. The Race as Race section of the rulebook would explain the difference between 0-level humans, 0-level elves, 0-level dwarves and 0-level halflings. Ans...

Re: Halflings & 2 weapons
I don't like 2-weapon fighting in general. No one really does it. If they do, they use the off-hand for parrying. Even in Krull, Prince-whats-his-face was always parrying with one-hand and attacking with the other. I think it's a movie thing, and this game isn't supposed to emulate movies, it's sup...

Re: Monster exp done yet?
If you're interested, I've been using S&W standards. Which loosely coincides with D&D 3x. S&W has a slower progression only because the XP needed is higher per level (2000 XP for a fighter, while only 1000 in 3x) and S&W give XP per GP "recovered." I do like the XP per GP s...

Re: Just reading through the rules and I am loving the DCC R
Dragon Age does an interesting thing with races. It uses them strictly as a background, with restrictions on Classes. I think it would be a good idea to expand the Starting Occupations with a larger list and a bit more detailed information, with some sort of Ability or Racial Bonus. Here are a coupl...

Re: Suggested Published Adventures That Would Make for Good
I've been running Frog God Games's "Splinters of Faith #1, It started with a Chicken," the S&W version. http://www.talesofthefroggod.com/index.php/products/splinters-of-faith It's an intro adventure, with simple traps, tons of un-dead and some elementals in the local dungeon. This work...

Session 2. Setup This is the second DCC RPG Beta Play-test session. One experienced player was replaced by a novice player. 4 players total. The new participant created 3 brand-new Zeros and the 3 living characters of the absent player was divided among the 3 returning players for a total of 15 cha...

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?
This is where I have issue with Appendix N, in place of just Sword & Sorcery, when we justify Elves and Dwarves because of Tolkien, we can't just dismiss mundane magic items like the Cloaks of Elvenkind, Brooches of Defence, Sting and that light-thing. Believe you-me, I want magic items to be da...

Re: Demi-human classes...
I learned a new term today, Fantasy Heartbreaker. Basically means a D&D rip-off, but not necessarily in a bad way. Which, in my opinion, is what DCC is trying NOT to be, but if it keeps tropes like Elves, Dwarves and Halflings it will fall into that trap--whether it wants to or not. Ditching tho...

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?
It would probably be in the best interest for DCC to have viable wizards (and clerics). It's pretty clear that Warriors are fine, Thieves... I don't know about that class anymore. The Demi-humans? I don't know why they're there. They should be optional, and examples, and possibly found in the Judge'...

The irony that is DCC RPG: A pre-D&D Sword & Sorcery Roleplaying Game built on d20, i.e. D&D.

There should be similar text explaining the number for Mighty Deeds of Arms that can possibly done aside from the "standard 7".

Re: Options for non-mages
Yeah, no. It's unfortunate that Wizards (and Elves) only have access to 716 spells. But for a Warrior (or Dwarf) to be limited to 15, 20 or even 100 or so Mighty Deeds would be a shame. I like that the 7 example MDoA are just that, examples. A 3rd Party book on 716 MDoAs would, on the other hand, be...

FWIW, at my play-test last night, no one at my table had an issue with the funky dice. d3, easy. no one had the "opportunity" to roll a d7 or d14, but they had to roll d16s and d24s and d30s. No one had an issue rolling (albeit they were confused at first, but they got it) rolling a d8 wit...

Rev. Dak's Los Angeles, CA, play-test report
Intro I decided to not start with "Portal" and convert an intro S&W (OD&D) module (Splinters of Faith #1: It Started With A Chicken by Frog God Games) instead. I did this for two reasons. I wanted to see how an OSR mod would play with DCC and I wanted to use OD&D XP values as ...

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?
Ability score increases of some sort would definitely help in long term play. d20 increases an ability every few levels. Since 10th is considered tip of the top, maybe 2 abilities increase at 5 and 2 more at 10th? or some smaller increases in between? There are clearly more cases of ability drain an...

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?
I have hopes for some relatively long-term play. When I played D&D for the first time, AD&D in the 80s, we cheated and fudged A LOT, and had some really high level characters. Probably about 6-8 years worth of play. I played 3.0 and we reached 10th after about 3 years of fairly consistent we...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
Surely missing the game due to something in 'real life' is punishment enough without having your character fall behind everyone elses as well? Everyone is on the same boat. One PC's punishment is another PC's reward. There ain't a perfect solution. But it works for the most part with my group and i...

Re: Options for non-mages
Those "seven" MDoA are just suggestions, examples. MDoAs are intended to make Warriors (and Dwarves) special. Sharing them would dilute the class.
