Re: Class Conversions for DCC
Hit dice are strange. Just use a straight up d8 or d10. There's no reason why this class should be AWESOME at first level in terms of survivability and then just MEH at 5th level and up. I don't want to encourage you :) but I think this kind of thing is needed for the long term viability of DCCRPG b...

Re: Party composition & different roles
What about generating four 0-level characters and then leveling up the one you like the most based on all those rolls? (As if they all survived the funnel) Kinda time consuming but it might help to distinguish and randomize the new character while giving the player a bit of choice. I kinda like tha...

Re: "Wizard's apprentice" and spells (Quick Question)
Anyway, the point of jmucchiello's post has nothing to do with whether rules-lite/less would work for everyone, it should go without saying. He's just saying that a good DM (which is the assumption) can adjudicate anything as needed, when needed. And the DCC rules definitely makes this assumption. ...

I would think women would prefer being left out of the examples of mayhem that often befall HIS character.

Re: "Wizard's apprentice" and spells (Quick Question)
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, the first thing the players did when the game started was spar with one another to figure who was better at what. I was most amused. I ran that game in college over 15 years ago so some of the details are fuzzy. But after the short sparring round (and hey, i...

How about d24: 1-3 Cleric, 4-6 Warrior, 7-9 Thief, 10-12 Wizard, 13-16 Dwarf, 17-20 Elf, 21-24 Halfling?abk108 wrote:"when a PC dies, have the player roll another 6 stats in order, roll 1d6 (1-2-3:human, 4:elf, 5:dwarf, 6:halfling) and choose a class for those stats."

Re: "Wizard's apprentice" and spells (Quick Question)
The game lasted 6 months of 4 hour weekly games. And internally there was a character sheet. I was actually GMing Fantasy HERO (with modified combat/checks of course). They just didn't know it. It was very consistent. If I told someone they could jump a 5 foot gap one day, they could do it any day. ...

Re: "Wizard's apprentice" and spells (Quick Question)
This just proves that a good DM trumps the necessity of rules in general. I once ran a game with no character sheets and no system. The players wrote character backgrounds to describe what set them apart from other people and I used that to create a mental image of the characters for my use as DM. I...

Re: Random Encounter Table ...?
Actually, random encounter charts are the best place for non-linear die results: Use 2d8: 2- Hydra, 5 heads, wounded 3- Harpies (1d3) 4- Ogre 5,6- Bandits (1d4+2) 7- goblin patrol (1d6+2 goblins) 8-10 No Encounter 11- Merchant Caravan 12- wolf pack (1d4+1 wolves) 13- leucrotta 14- halfling gypsies 1...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed
using the d8 to simulate a d7 (with an 8 = 4) wouldn't be that big of a deal 1. You're right that it probably wouldn't be a big deal. 2. Why mess with the probabilities at all? Just roll the d8 and re-roll all 8's that come up. I imagine rerolls could be annoying. How about trying it first and then...

I'd still prefer that the "cleric" was the white-magic side and deities were the Nice Patrons.

Re: again about MDoA ...
Maybe some kinds of enemies should have a different effect on receiving MDoA!? So you want to add an MDoA defense score to everything? It's a great idea but I don't think it will gain traction. You need to internalize the die roll to the fighter. Or, we just find out the class die is d3=1st level, ...

Re: again about MDoA ...
It makes me sick to think that is where it will go... lol. Good point on the increasingly better results for higher numbers though. Of course that just leads to excessive MDoAs again if you are too generous. Back before the Beta when speculating about MDoAs, I just assumed they would be tiered diff...

Re: again about MDoA ...
But look at what a 7 does on the MDoA charts just imagine what you can do with an 11 or 12 on those charts. Player: "I try to knock my opponent back" {11} DM: "You smack the butt of your weapon down against the dirt causing the ground to shake, knocking over every opponent within 40'....

Re: Quick Question
There is a thread somewhere about changing the profession table to a set of tables keyed off ability score so you roll on the table of your best score. This would help avoid stupid wizard apprentices and weakling blacksmiths.

Re: How do high spell results compare to higher level spells
This is actually what I've done with the spell charts I've worked on for my own project. My "level skip" doesn't happen every 4 though. It's more spread out. But this is roughly how my spell charts are broken up. Reread my chart. It isn't every 4 it's n+1 = +4; n+2 = +6 (or +10 over n); n...

That's why I don't think, in the end, it will need even a page. Maybe a small sidebar in the monster or trap section.

How do high spell results compare to higher level spells?
MOVED: from the Limiting Corruption thread Let me pose the question a slightly different way. Here's the challenge I'm trying to solve: the fact that a level 3 spell has a minimum success threshold of 16+ on the die, while a level 1 spell has a minimum threshold of 12+. Should a level 3 spell be har...

Use my system for the wizard and use this system for the cleric. Then the two spellcasting "systems" will actually be different.Hamakto wrote:After saying that, I will throw one more idea out there before resting on this thread (I have agitated enough people here).

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
*grins* Yes I can type that. I think that I am having a problem explaining all of the permutations that I see. You are just the 7.5% the spell check roll. I see all the permutations you see. I just don't care about them. I am not worried about "balance" because I have no baseline to work ...
