Yeah better be lucky that good! Although he is pretty good at most things too.
Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2 would cover this too, with luck as an important stat- there are only three Skill, Stamina and Luck.

Re: How could we forget this...???
This all sounds good, just extra crazy differences... I have never wanted to play a halfling before, until now. The latest PFRPG halfling book has a prestige class based on luck, so that tickled my fancy too.

More awesome art, cannot wait to get my hands on this. Any chance for priority for non RPG Day BETA prints to go to pre-orderers?

Re: Elric's plate armor and Gandalf's sword
I'm not sure where there's wiggle room to insert a mechanic that (IMO) has been missing since day one. This has long been a sticking point with me and D&D (in all it's forms). It really sucks at being able to represent a competent, unarmored warrior which is far more common in fantasy literatur...

Re: Origins of D&D ideas: monsters, classes, spells, etc.
Yeah in now way did the DnD/1E thief cover that. No magic for a start! However the original thief was very uninspiring, and lacked anything useful skills wise cos their chance of success was so, so low. At least my first PC with his 2 HP and one (randomly rolled) spell could do something useful, eve...

Re: Elric's plate armor and Gandalf's sword
My main reason for liking random encounters is that is becomes a challenge for me as DM. I know exactly what is waiting for the players (although not what they will do) a random encounter forces me to think on my feet. I enjoy that as a player and it is nice to have it as DM too.

Yeah GMG really really need to get on to them and organise a full set of all the dice (including d7) that are a matching set.

Re: Economics in DCC...Gold! Gold! Gold!
I prefer closer to what happened IRL. You had a gold coin (or several different weights) that was very very rarely seen and different sizes of silver coins. Copper and Iron (and brass etc) are not worth enough to be coins, as coins are just circular trading items of precious metal not representative...

Re: Encounter Levels and Random Encounters
It does make sense but a CR type system (even if not so precise) is still useful when not using a balanced encounter system. If you need to grab a low power bunch of enemies you can look at about the CR you want, and vice versa. However, unless there are a ton of monsters, it doesn't take much to ge...

Re: Any playtest games at the Dicehead SIEGE con in Chattano
Machpants, I'm going to be in and around Auckland in the middle of July. Google Maps says it's over eight hours' drive from Martinborough, but if you can make it I'll be glad to run a DCC RPG playtest for you and any other gamers you might know in the area! It would please me no end to have a play ...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels
Great post, covers all my worries. Covering those levels but leaving the niceties to GM discretion (I am not a big building keep type guy) and further supplements (which expand the existing core rather than being required for all games) sounds great. WIN!

Re: Have your attitudes towards DCC RPG changed since Jan. 3
I am not sure where you got the backwards compatible vibe from, it has never seen that way to me. Being d20 based (like so many games) I reckon conversion will be easy and hopefuly doable on the fly. But I am totally down on the 5 levels thing and I think that is the norm on this very enthusiastic f...

So Free RPG day not really making it to NZ (we only have a handful of actual games stores mostly concentrating on WH40K type minis games); what from that day is available from the interent? Or is it all packs that get sent to participating stores?

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels
When I am OSing I def want to just 'suit up and delve', with minimal political stuff. So I would like to see a progression beynd 5 that doesn't involve getting a keep etc. But not having all the rules out for all levels can be a pain. Our Dragon Age game wasn't helped by the fact that levels 6+ stil...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
Yep warriors only, that is not to say the player can try to do these sort of advanced things, but not on an auto roll of the dice and with a hard DC. Theif want to disarm, well that is going to be hard work unless he comes up with a very clever way to achieve it.
