Re: Warriors and MDoA's
But the quote says: Interesting. The DM should add his own roll of the same MDoA die to the fumble chart (assuming the results get nastier the higher the fumble roll). 1st level warrior rolls a fumble while doing an MDoA. DM adds d3 to the fumble chart roll. 6th level warrior rolls a fumble etc DM a...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
IIRC, Joseph told us that higher roll on MDoA should mean more nasty stunts. But I'm too lazy to find the reference now... Here we go, I'd forgotten about this: The rules include guidelines on what a disarm means if the warrior rolls a 3, a 4, a 5, etc. on his second die; what a blinding attack mea...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
Interesting. The DM should add his own roll of the same MDoA die to the fumble chart (assuming the results get nastier the higher the fumble roll). That would mean that a fumble potentially has more dire effects for a higher level warrior because of the larger range on the dice e.g. 1-3 for a level...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
Maybe, but there are some valid points to what they have to say and I'd hate for DCC to be known as "that game with a zillion pages of spells" so that no one wants to play it. The best-selling game at my FLGS is Pathfinder, where the core rulebook (500+ pages) has no monsters in it and so...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
Marv, all the 'oh no not tables!' comments on the blogs are from people who advocate more 64 page flavourless generic retro-clones are the only way forward. Well they exist already, and I haven't seen any of those bloggers posting to this forum or putting forward any constructive comments. When they...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
Personalized spellbooks are a great idea, more fun and practical than passing a copy of the rulebook around during play.

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
I favour condensing spells wherever possible. You say the 32 spells are 1st level - but how many of these cover the effects of higher level spells within their potential range ? - I've only seen the Magic Missile spell and that is hellish powerful at higher rolls. Surely a Charm Person spell encompa...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
Are you sure none of these are very powerful? Yes, but only in a limited sphere- in combat -compare this to wizards being able to invoke patrons - and at higher levels -launch magic missiles through a crystal ball, and I think there needs to be that probability of warrior's (as level increases) pul...

Re: Upcoming playtests of DCC RPG
To expand on my original comment - Paizo had a situation where any poster suggesting the numbers didn't work or the spell descriptions were open to abuse was met with a wall of ' DUDE, you're playing it wrong, my game rocks!' then getting censure or banned by the forum mods for being anti-the game. ...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
I love the MDoA idea, though it seems like it needs tweaking still. What I am curious about is how the other classes get to pull off stunts though. I tend to agree it should be a warrior thing but the other classes should have a way to do it (I guess you can always let the DM decide on the fly, lik...

Re: Encounter Levels and Random Encounters
Far more important for creating balanced encounters is having a good DM who knows what his players' characters can handle. Due to the greater level of randomization, the potential range of what they can handle is increased (upwards and maybe downwards too if they roll badly), so from a DMing point ...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1
As for why I think DCCRPG might have problems with it, it's just from how the classes gain effectiveness: better spell results, better attack results, etc. The higher level monsters might expect such results making lower level characters less effective against them. Since there won't be a big treas...

Re: Any Prerequisites?
Trying to gain an advantage by the book needn't just be about character optimization. It can be something as simple as a 1st level wizard stocking up on oil flasks to bring some mayhem to the underdark. Powergaming is as old as the Haste spell, which Gygax's players interpreted to their advantage. O...

Powergaming the DCC RPG
I thought I'd start a thread for posters to throw up powergaming thoughts, questions and issues. I'm not saying powergaming's right or wrong, just one way to test parts of the system. e.g. If there is more than one halfling in a party can they stack Luck bonuses ? Imagine the party consists of 1 wiz...

Re: Economics in DCC...Gold! Gold! Gold!
I typically use jrients' Ale & Wenching house rule for this. Works fairly well. Would be nice for DCC to have something comparable. I agree - but I bet some player spends as much money as possible on carousing to get the XP. Not all PC's need to be wenching & carousing types, so how about l...

Re: Economics in DCC...Gold! Gold! Gold!
The point being that a dragon or other monter might not be interested in hoarding pennies and quarters but would be interested in big-price coins like gold. And those coins might be a real pain to spend anywhere. "Sure it's worth $1000, but I aint got any change for that kind of coin. Give me ...
