Re: Percentage Thief Skills
I think a good solution could be to publish the Thief in Joseph's preferred format in the Class section & to have an Appendix with an optional version. I'm against appendices of optional rules, I've seen how it muddies the game. Let's aim for a core game so when a person sits down at a tourname...

Re: Idea: Remove most negative penalties from DCCRPG
There are a lot of places where negative penalties are assigned to die rolls where it might make more sense for the entire die roll to be rethought. DCCRPG already does this in the two-weapon fighting rules. Instead of using the rules of 3e directly: -6 primary -10 secondary, it drops the die size ...

Re: Luck to survive?
Aside from saves, it seems like a lot of life and death situations are the result of passive defense, not active rolls. The 'recover the body' roll is active though, Luck could be pumped into it to ensure survival. So maybe thieves and halflings are a lot more powerful (harder to permanently kill) ...

This would make Thieves and Halflings much less killable.

Re: Selling DCC to my group
Do you mean to imply (for example) that a Magic Missile and Fireball are really the same thing, only you fail at Fireball more often? Level does 3 things in the rules as presented: 1) It limits who has access to the spell 2) It affect the chance of success in casting indirectly since 1st level spel...

Re: Armor
Let me add another voice to the opinion of increasing the effectiveness of shields somehow. I don't see it in the beta test rules, but I believe there was a rule in the last version of the full rules I have that a character can sacrifice their shield to completely negate all the damage from one att...

Re: Cleric spells by level VS Wizard spells known/level limi
By high levels I reckon a wizard will be as monstrous as his patron. In fact, maybe that's the secret DCC rpg endgame - becoming a patron, hanging out on yr favourite plane till some no-name gongfarmer summons you back to earth.jmucchiello wrote: a tentacled and gilled freak like he is?

Re: Armor
I liked the way LotFP did away with AC bonuses and just said... if you're unarmored you get 12, in Leather you get 14, in Chain you get 16, in Scale you get 18 in Plate you get 20. And you only get a DEX bonus if you're unarmored or in Leather. I felt it made unarmored a really good option for the ...

I need help making up names for the mass of 0 lvl pc's in a party. If they get to 1st Level, then I'll think about naming mine ! My wife and I rolled 6 between us, just noted the stat modifiers to save time, other stats average. Hers: Ditch Digger : STR -1, AGL -2, LCK +1 (Corruption rolls), HP 2, ...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
Of course but what if it's not memorized or already cast? Then pick another spell - a non-blaster one, that disables or restrains the enemy so the rest of the party get to do the damage for a change, or maybe he buffs up the party rather than being a one-man-army, or changes the environment to thei...

But the quote says: Interesting. The DM should add his own roll of the same MDoA die to the fumble chart (assuming the results get nastier the higher the fumble roll). 1st level warrior rolls a fumble while doing an MDoA. DM adds d3 to the fumble chart roll. 6th level warrior rolls a fumble etc DM ...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
Unless you're fighting something that requires fire damage why not just cast an easier Level 1 Magic Missile spell ?
Maybe you could do away with Scorching Ray entirely and have fire as the most likely side effect of a Magic Missile - maybe encompassing the Fireball spell too at a higher roll.

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
I like Dragons at Dawn only having 40-50 spells and rules for spell research, it gives you enough to build on, then it's up to you. I really like that, too. I particularly like that only 3 spells in D@D do damage. How many spells do we need that basically say, “This spell creates a ball/beam/ray/ar...

Mercurial Magic in playtests
Now mix into all of this what I call "mercurial magic." To quote the manuscript: The firstborn son of a witch hanged at trial wields black magic adroitly. An orphan raised by satyrs is a precocious student of druidry. Cosmic caprice determines skill in magic: birth order, family lineage, ...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
I'm very much in favour of unique spells appearing in modules; to my mind, that best fits the bespoke nature of spells. If this is to be the case, there better be very clear rules on how a magic user can "collect" spells from foes during adventures, as that will be a veritable compulsion ...
