Re: D5 kind of sucks.
What issues are people having with the d3? I like rolling it but it is a bit ugly with the Rock/Paper/Scissors letters on it.

Re: Weapons: Two-Handed Sword, X-bows, and Equalizing Damage
Afterall this is abstract combat so it's easy to justify, At this point I thought you were going to just go with weapon damage by CLASS. Warriors: d8 (maybe more at higher level), thief: d6, cleric: d6, wizard: d4, elf: d6, halfling: d5, dwarf: d7, 0-level: d4. Consider that 0-level folk have aroun...

Weapons: Two-Handed Sword, X-bows, and Equalizing Damage
After a playtest today some issues came up over some of the weapon damages and the clear superiority that some have over others. 1. There is little reason to use a Two-Handed Sword (with it's -4 initiative penalty and the loss of shield use) when you can use a Longsword and do similar damage. Worse ...

Warriors: "Lucky Weapon"
I completed a playtest today and let's just say that Orcs are brutal against level 0 opponents (love it!). Of note was that after reaching level 1 the warrior got to pick a weapon that he was "lucky" with. This character had found a longsword on an orc and wanted to make that his weapon bu...

Re: D5 kind of sucks.
I found the d5 is the only one that doesn't seem to roll "randomly" if don't bounce it (this is especially true if you roll on a soft surface, like my felt lined dice tray). I am going to rule that players must roll the die on a hard surface and must bounce it (either drop or a proper roll).

I agree, it may just be a typo so I would love clarification. That said, I think it makes sense as a rule and hope it is in fact what is intended.

Re: Mighty Deeds of Arms
Ok I just realized that the MDoA die doesn't add to damage rolls if used for an MDoA... Where is that? Everything I see says the attack is as normal, including the attack die adding to damage. Under Warrior there is a line that starts "The Deed does not increase the damage..." which could...

Re: Mighty Deeds of Arms
Ok I just realized that the MDoA die doesn't add to damage rolls if used for an MDoA. This needs to be explained better in the final book. In any case it reduces my concern that they will be over-used and become repetitive/boring. I'm a lot more comfortable having these charts in the books now thoug...

Re: 3d6, in order
Yeah I definitely agree on the first part and am considering removing Luck as well.smathis wrote:bholmes4 wrote: I'd say it should be every level after the first though. 2nd level on. And maybe remove Luck from the equation. Getting a +1 to Luck is very ephemeral for every class besides the Halfling and Thief.

Re: No Skill Chapter
Ok another question: If the difficulty is beyond the ability of the character, say a DC of 15 and the character only has a d10, is the action impossible or do you give them a chance (ie. if they roll a 10 on the d10 they can roll again and if they get another 10 they succeed, essentially 1% chance o...

Re: 3d6, in order
I think in long term campaigns I may allow characters to develop their abilities (ie. hidden potential) but stick to 3d6 to start. Mind you this is nothing major, maybe a chance for a +1 to one ability every 2 levels Just a wacky idea, off the top of my head ... what if a character could get a +1 e...

Re: Mighty Deeds of Arms
I'm not a big fan of this either. In fact I was kind of shocked when I saw it presented like that (basically pages of "feats" but done in a simpler manner). I recognize that d20 fans are probably expecting this sort of thing so I may just have to hand wave that section away. Something that...

Re: My spellbook solution
How legible is the rest of the pdf on a Kindle? I am looking at buying an e-book reader like Kindle or even something like the Ipad 2 but don't know if it's worth it or not. I mainly want one for reading all my RPG pdfs which as we know are almost always on large pages (vs. a novel or similar format...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills
I agree that d20 +d3 (class die) is not that big of a bonus but couldn't thieves be d24 for skullduggery actions + class die? Or am I missing something?
A 1st level thief would be d24 +d3 which is significantly better than a d20 for all other characters.

Yeah I hope the final version has a section on Dungeoneering (or something similar) that talks about typical situations, obstacles etc. and a base line to deal with them.

Re: No Skill Chapter
Ok that makes more sense to me now.
So I guess you would reduce the DC (or give a bonus) to a Wizard who was also a former Scribe vs. just a Wizard or a Warrior-Scribe?

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
I agree with Finarvyn on most points but I still want variable xp tables. I don't carefully monitor xp gains in-game so at the end it's a bit of an approximation with bonuses as I see fit. If I've awarded 1,400 xp and I see that the thief needs another 600 to level I might award the full 2,000 xp an...

Re: No Skill Chapter
Using those examples, what would happen if the Warrior wasn't a blacksmith previously or the Wizard a scribe? Would they roll a d10 in that instance? Would they roll a die 10 and get their class die? Surely a wizard should have a better chance at translating something than a warrior since they are a...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
Keep variable XP tables since you have such unbalanced classes (a good thing I might add).
Standardization is definitely not a good thing when it's applied to everything.

Re: Weapon Training (Page 16)
One thing I played around with is the idea that all classes can use all weapons, but unless the character is a fighter, the damage can't exceed their hit die type. In other words, a wizard can use a longsword, but he'll only inflict 1d4 damage when doing so. It lets players give their character the...

Re: Dice...
The Zocchi dice, character funnel etc. may cull some sales, this is true. What I think is often over-looked and forgotten is that these sorts of flavourful ideas also add to sales as well. Maybe initial sales drop due to the Zocchi dice but they also add others like me that have their interest pique...
