Re: No Skill Chapter
Maybe the name "class die" was jmucchiello's concept but I think a lot of us expected that classes used the funky dice as bonuses from the start so this was one of the big disappointments when I got the beta rules (which I love mind you, I just think they need lots of tweaking still). When...

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons
My group has adopted a house rule for initiative in Pathfinder that goes like: All players roll individual init on first round as normal, but the DM only rolls a single Initiative die for the baddies All PCs that beat the DM roll get to take a turn Then we just alternate between sides starting with...

Re: 3d6, in order
Wow thanks. So that means the difference drops from about 10.5 to about 8 (but thats after 10 levels) since the abilities increased about 2.5 total points on average. That is still a huge difference from 4d6 even at top level.

Re: 3d6, in order
Just tested this out for 6 characters over 10 levels, giving them one roll against an ability every 2 levels (at 2/4/6/8/10th level). I picked abilities based on those I thought a player would most likely roll against in that situation (considering class etc.). Since I would not allow rolls against ...

Re: 3d6, in order
I get the feeling that we're losing the impact of "3d6 in order" when we start adding so many bonuses to the stats. A high roll is supposed to mean something, but the more other characters can add to their stats then the less value there is in that lucky roll. Or, players no longer have t...

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons
I have to agree that if there is going to be a modifier to 2-hand weapons it should be positive. Having reach on your opponent is huge, and many 2-h weapons are very fast -- see Deadliest Warrior. But probably better if there were no modifier at all. But even better, use initiative by side whenever...

Re: Warriors: "Lucky Weapon"
I kind of like Birth Augurs going negative as well but I don't like that positive birth augurs can swing to negative and vice versa. I say a negative starting birth augur can only be increased to a 0, a positive can only be decreased to 0. Basically you were either born unlucky in an area or lucky. ...

I do too, and I definitely think that non-Rogues/Halflings should be able to recover Luck as well. Recovering it based on actions in accordance with their alignment, doing particularly heroic actions, and/or deeds helping the cosmic powers. They do. If you look there is a post here by "Goodman...

Re: Ability Score Modifier Progression
I could handle the last idea. I like that every range has two numbers except 9-12 which has 4 (at the 0 modifier). Works out nicely.
I don't want +4s though.

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons
Given the several disadvantages to using larger two-handed weapons in DCC, I'd very much like to see it them offer characters the ability to get a first strike against approaching foes with shorter reaching weapons. To me this is why I don't like the -4 penalty to 2-handers and think it's probably ...

Re: The Spell-Crypts of Thurfang Bormaug
Ha! I've been thinking about this quote today. I have two more players who are going to jump in on Saturday. Today, one of them, George C, rolled up his 3 guys. He rolled a 100 for his occupation (a woodcutter)! And on another character, he rolled up a soldier. He got a spear (d8!) and a shield! I ...

Re: 0 lvl PC weapon training
If a 0-level character handles multiple weapons over his career, he is considered trained in the last weapon he fought with. At 1st level, a character gains training in additional weapons, based on the class he chooses. Generally, using a weapon without training imposes a -4 attack penalty. However...

Re: Spellburn abuse with Patron Bond, Find Familiar etc.
Another option is to make spell burn a random roll. If a wizard chooses to spell burn roll a d6 and are forced to spend that many points. In fact they can just roll the d6 with the d20 when casting the spell. Easy and quick and removes the loop hole and mental math that goes on. It just seems odd th...

Re: Weapons: Two-Handed Sword, X-bows, and Equalizing Damage
Ok I see, yeah I suppose calling it Equalizing damage was a bit misleading on my part when I really want to shift the categories of some of the weapons so that their are more choices in the d8 range. As to your suggestion I was working on house rules for D&D that had sliding die shifts and class...

Re: Spellburn abuse with Patron Bond, Find Familiar etc.
Yes old school was like that but then again there were usually rules or a system in place for the major ways players could "game" the system. Afterall, wizards couldn't just cast fireballs or wish from the start, there were ability requirements, level limits and so on. Right now I am consi...

Re: Spellburn abuse with Patron Bond, Find Familiar etc.
Or you let them do it, give them a couple of days to recover so they are at -8 ( or 18 ) instead of -10 ( or 20 ) and then spring something on them. Appendix N is full of adventure inflicting itself upon characters. I like this and it's likely what I would do but I'd like a mechanic in place just t...

Re: Warriors: "Lucky Weapon"
I dislike the steady powercreep of stackable +1 modifiers and prefer that a warrior's lucky weapon just ignores all negative Luck modifiers. Using this method the lucky weapon is a greater boon to Low-luck characters or those whose Luck fluctuates to low levels due to burning it. Charcters who alwa...

Re: 3d6, in order
Now that I know luck can be awarded after adventures and such I think rolling 3d6 every 2 levels is the route I will go. That way really gimp characters might improve 3-5 points (remember this is by level 10 when they are truly heroic) and already strong characters may improve 0-3 (due to the diffic...

Re: Weapons: Two-Handed Sword, X-bows, and Equalizing Damage
What do you mean? Like an elf does d6, an orc does d8 and an orge does 2d8 with ANY weapon. I don't understand what you mean a longsword in a wizard's hand is as effective as a dagger in a wizard's hand. Oh, I get it. When I said CLASS, I meant character class not weapon class. Wasn't that apparent...

Spellburn abuse with Patron Bond, Find Familiar etc.
What is stopping a character, during downtime (ie. back in town), from spellburning a ton of points for spells like Patron Bond or Find Familiar? After a playtest today a wizard rolled Find Familiar and decided to cast it. He burned the require 10 points and extra 6 (but could have went further) and...
