Re: Critical Hits with dice other than d20
This is why I don't like using dice other than d20 for extra attacks etc. (Unless you have special cases like with the halfling which are easy to use). It's gimmicky for minimal rewards :it's not like their aren't modifiers already, is it really that hard to say I am +1 -4 = -3 to my roll? Probably ...

Re: Experiment: Mists of Madness, converted for 0-level
I said that somewhat in jest, but they are in the module, which only costs a couple bucks. He puts stuff in a level 1 (4E) module like "The lock is easily picked. DC 20." Now an optimized level 1 4E thief would have a 50/50 at this lock, but even in 4E I'd likely lower and "easily pi...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
Actually I like this cascading effect, I think dropping the stat but keeping the modifier the same would be even harder to explain to players 'yeh he has Str 18 and +3 mod, and you're down to Str 7, but guess what, you still have +3 mod.' That just sounds like a recipe for argument. You've dropped ...

Antonia steeled her nerves and attempted a combination attack as a mighty deed to attempt to spread her damage to the two remaining shades. A success, with an 18+3+2 on her attack and 8+3+2 damage. She felled the last two shades. I think you did this wrong. The MDoA roll doesn't count for the damag...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
One game element that I dislike, which is well highlighted by Luck, is the cascading effect of having a stat go down in value. I've never cared for it, going back 30 years, that when an ability is damaged in some way that the modifier is tracked. It really became a problem in 3.x, where the damaged...

Re: Idea: Remove most negative penalties from DCCRPG
Hamatko's reasons don't line up with the OP so how are his reasons valid for why you don't like it. As I said, only use different dice in permanent situations. Charging is not a permanent situation. So it is just a modifier. Hamatko's main concern was also stated by me: You never want a situation w...

Re: Idea: Remove most negative penalties from DCCRPG
Sounds good but I don't think it works as well in-play for Hamakto's reasons.
Changing a few dice here and there (ie. when dual wielding) we can work around but I'm not sure i want this pervasive in the system. Save those for the damage rolls, chart rolls etc.

3. Spears in this game are long and not meant for throwing. For that you want Javelins.
4. If you download the GM tables you will find a monster crit table that you can substitute in for now. In the full rules you will have proper tables for monsters.
5. Yes.

Re: Luck
I'm not saying it shouldn't change, I just don't know if it should be an ability score. Actually I'm not sure that it shouldn't be either, I just know right now it needs some fine tuning. You could always have it such that the thief and halfling are the only classes that increase their luck pool fro...

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?
By the way, I am looking at the Rogues Gallery from TSR (AD&D) to see what sort of stats and such the main players in Gygax's long term campaigns had as a point of reference. These are pretty heroic characters I am looking at. I just think that in long term play it's important that a player feel...

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?
I echo what Smathis said. The slow wear down of your character (corruption, ability loss) does not lend itself to long term play. It's very cool for an adventure or two but long term you will drive your character in to the ground. In every way your character gets more powerful (hp, spell access, equ...

Re: Luck
I personnaly think the whole Luck mechanic needs to be rethought. There are so many oddities to how it functions currently that I think it adds very little to the game other than a lot of head scratching "huh? that makes no sense" moments. My 2c. Actually I agree with this. I would like t...

Re: Luck
Alternately, the awards could just add to what you have at the moment. Which means thieves and halflings will essentially 'heal' that burned Luck faster -- unless somehow they didn't spend as much as the adventure is awarding them... I may use this but not sure I should. On one hand it really slows...

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?
Right now, as is, now I won't use it for long term campaign play. It's clearly been playtested with one-offs and I think the game suffers for it right now. That said I love the system and have been working on house rules to solve some of these holes. I just wish this beta came out earlier so we migh...

* If you're a halfling or thief, it recovers at the rate of 1 point per day. * For all classes, you can recover Luck by performing deeds worthy of the cosmic powers. Gain the favor of a deity or demigod, and you'll be favored by chance: reflected in an improvement to Luck. Hmm, now that I think abo...

Re: Funky Dice & Weapon Damage?
Yeah that is exactly my plan for magical items as well. You can do some interesting things with the funky dice so that you can spice up an otherwise boring +2 sword for instance. Maybe it's the Short Sword of Sharpness now, +2 hit, 1-10 damage, 1-16 on a natural 20. Really it's not much different th...

Re: Weapons: Two-Handed Sword, X-bows, and Equalizing Damage
No math, wacky dice instead boring old dice, what's not to love about it. Also, I like the idea that a 0-level character MIGHT survive a glancing blow from an ogre VS the idea that it is impossible for a 0-level character to survive a glancing blow from an ogre (d6+6 is minimum 7. d4+Sta of +3 is m...
