Re: a request regarding the dice
Oh, and basically this is what my first dice sets looked like, except that I didn't have a pink d20 until a lot later.... http://www.dicecollector.com/diceinfo_dnd_cheapo.jpg I'd love to re-create this color scheme, only with modern "high impact" dice. (Or, those "porcelain" dice...

Re: a request regarding the dice
Those are pretty cool! I have the same basic issue with those as I do with my Cthulhu dice (kind of busy) so I wouldn't probably use them in play, but I wouldn't mind owning a set.mythfish wrote:These are the dice I currently covet.

Re: Reading Appendix N
Another interesting omission to Appendix N is Gardner F. Fox. I mean, the guy wrote several S&S books. I have on my shelf: Kothar Barbarian Swordsman (1969) Kothar and the Demon Queen (1973) Kothar and the Magic Sword (1969) Kothar and the Wizard Slayer (1970) Kyrik: Warlock Warrior (1975) While...

Re: Elf ... or is it?
an "alternate" spell name for each traditional spell so that players could learn with one name and then migrate slowly to the other name Could you give the DCC flavor name for the spell and the D&D equivalent in parenthesis? I would hate to lose a cool name like Cadixtat's Axe of Unma...

Here's one for the "Dying Earth" RPG: http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/dyingearth.html It claims to refresh every 15 minutes or so, but I've never checked back often enough to verify this. Here are a few samples from my visit: Tobartz's sectarian preservation Edorque's haughty inn Kyruixo's ...

Re: Designer's Blog #1: What It Is, And What It Isn't
If ever a movement will need the 21st century equivalent of Dragon Magazine, this will! Castles & Crusades has the Crusaders magazine. Joseph, if you folks haven't been thinking about it, you should be. Perhaps start thinking about a bi-annual or quarterly magazine? There's no reason why "...

Yes! This is exactly the problem with modern RPG systems!goodmangames wrote:After a few years, the "point of entry" is lost in "rule book bloat" -- new players feel overwhelmed by having so many options and so much complexity to grasp before they're on par with the existing players.

Re: Designer's Blog #1: What It Is, And What It Isn't
I believe that the plan is to have a single, complete, "one and done" rulebook. This doesn't mean that there couldn't be later supplements done by GG or by other companies, since Joseph said it would be a licensed OGL game. Indeed, certain "common" classes like Ranger aren't goin...

Re: Elf ... or is it?
Certain terms are now a common language between all gamers, a bridge of sorts, and sticking to those terms helps speed the learning curve up tremendously. When it comes to elves, I think it's best to still call them elves. They might be "like D&D elves bit a little different" but stil...

Re: a request regarding the dice
As an old gamer myself I have a lot of dice, but what is the point of even having a d5, d7, or d24? Aren't the 6 types normally used enough to have? What would you use the new ones for? Simple: 1. Joesph likes 'em. 2. Joseph wants to use 'em. 3. Joseph intends to design the DCC rpg so that we all g...

My better half bought me a nook color for xmas, love this thing. My better half bought me one of these for xmas as well. I've tried a couple of PDF files but not my DCC's yet. Your news is disturbing, since the reason she picked the Nook color is because it was supposed to be more PDF-friendly. Now...

Re: AoC Question
Imagine the traditional Call of Cthulhu game viewed through the lens of a cliffhanger serial, such as Buck Rogers or Indiana Jones, and you've got the idea. That dangerous and dusty old book your investigator is carrying may come in handy (or may drive you insane), but the revolver your investigato...

Re: levelup ?
From what I can tell, Joseph is pretty savvy when it comes to reading the market. If he saw a big future in 4E I'm sure he'd be the first one to support it. I don't think that the creation of the DCC RPG is an anti-4E thing, but more of a move to favor what he thinks is a market he can capture. I've...

Elf ... or is it?
Just wondering if using the term "elf" gives too much of a Tolkien or traditional D&D interpretation. Is the "elf" so much ingrained in RPG lore that calling it something else would ruin the experience? In other words, if a GM has to re-educate players about what elfs are lik...

Re: Thoughts on a simplified SRD game.
I believe the answer is something like this: * Elf can be a "race only" * Elf can be a class If you choose elf as a class, you get certain class abilities that go along with the selection. If you select another class you can still have the race of elf but not all of the special abilities. ...

Re: Thoughts on a simplified SRD game.
I accept that anyone reading the published version of DCC RPG is probably an experienced role player. I am sure that a significant portion of those who play this game will incorporate one house rule or another. I am purposely leaving certain portions of the rules "modular." Think of it li...

one of Joseph's directives for the DCC was to ensure that magic is magical again. You don't give up a robe of many things .... it might be the only one in existence! Magic items are no longer buffs to be slotted. They are awesome antiquarian relics that don't admit to the laws of physics. They are ...
