Re: Lost Swords- ideas for magic items and adventure?
Wow. I had totally forgotten about those books. I never got to read the whole series (I think there are 12 or so books) but I enjoyed the couple that I did read. If you are an old time gamer, you possibly remember the treasure table had a sword +1 with the charm person ability. I always wondered whe...

Re: Positioning for combat, traps, etc with so many characte
As I noted in the other thread, for me the way I run a game is very situational. I try to abstract things as much as possible with verbal details instead of a map. If things get a little sticky, I'll try to move onto a simple sketch so the players can see specifics. In some cases the details become ...

[Mod voice] I should point out that the reason the other post was "eaten" might be that new posters have to have things approved by a mod (such as myself) the first couple of times. Then I know you aren't trying to SPAM us and you get the freedom to do your own thing. I approved two posts...

Re: DCC to run Frog God Stuff
You really could go either way with this. Frog God Games products are designed for old school D&D and the clones, so S&W is a natural fit. On the other hand, DCC works well (in my opinion) side-by-side with a lot of old school products as well. A couple of thoughts in semi-random order: (1) ...

Thief table 1-9 Reimagined
I was looking at the thief skills table (table 1-9 in the core rulebook) and saw some patterns I liked. First, note that for all of the skills (except "cast spell from scroll" which is a dice type) there are only a few different number progressions. What I thought would be cool is to rebui...

Re: Character Literacy
Great first post, and welcome to the boards! 8) I'll confess that literacy isn't a topic that I think about much with my fantasy RPGs, which is a bit strange since so many games focus on languages known (spoken) so why not literacy? Also, this makes one more reason why intellegence isn't a "dum...

I know what you mean. Between METAMORPHOSIS ALPHA and DCC Lankhmar, I think that Goodman Games has the two most exciting new product lines out there at the moment.Sudo Dragon wrote:Yup, failed my will check against Goodman Games products. Thanks everyone who has worked on them.

Re: Available for Purchase?
I just got Through Ningauble's Cave. If this is an example of what it to come I am hooked. Yes, this is exacty the kind of product to expect in the DCC Lankhmar. The next release (Masks of Lankhmar) should be out at GenCon. P.S. My previous post on this disappeared, or did I press the wrong button?...

Which edition rules....
...are the Age of Cthulhu products written for? I had kind of assumed CoC 5E , but a guy at my local game store said that he thought they were written for "Basic Role Playing" rules. I know that BRP is sort of the skeleton behind a whole family of RPGs (RuneQuest, Elric/Stormbringer, CoC, ...

Re: I have failed you all.
I feel your pain. While I haven't allowed DCC characters to reach level 10, I've had similar issues with my 5E players in my weekly game at the game store. Each week I think "this is finally the week that they die" but somehow they pull a miracle out of their hindquarters and live to fight...

Re: Advancement
There was a discussion or two about this during the Beta phase of playtest. I think that the intent of the XP rules was to free up the DM of having to continually count XP, which is why they are given in larger chunks instead of individual bits, and as such it's totally up to the DM when such awards...

Re: Combat in the Funnel
Have each player arrange their character sheets so that they're in a line, w/ one clearly in front, another bringing up the rear, and the other(s) in the middle. I'd rule a maximum of 8 zeroes could attack a medium sized adversary, if conditions were right. For larger opponents, allow more as you s...

Re: Playing without the "stupid" dice
I caught your "can I ignore them entirely" comment, and I sympathize with your frustration. The problem is that some of the elements of the game specifically call for certain dice types. My suggestion is to come up with a simple way to know how to swap out one dice type for another. (There...

Re: "Advanced" Dungeon Crawl Classics
If you were going to create an "Advanced" version of the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG, what would you add to the game? An awesome thread! I haven't put much thought into this, but here are some ideas off the top of my head. 1. Expanded class selection. Paladins, rangers, and so on. 2. Expan...

Re: Into the Dragon's Maw
The fact is even almost a year into 5e, folks are not experienced with high level 5e play. My players had similar issues. Too many options and not familiar with all the nuances with the rules. I agree. I've been running a 5E game in the local store since September and the characters are only level ...

Re: New Judge for Free RPG Day, need advice
I don't typically allow for characters to level up during a session. That stuff happens in between game sessions, which means not at all for a one-shot adventure.
As you noted, the level-up process can be very lengthy particularly if the players are novices.

Re: The Secret Origins of DCC RPG
[*]I was a proponent of the game only going up to level 5. But I was outvoted by the DCC RPG community, and in retrospect I'm glad I was. This was an interesting discussion because a lot of folks to wanted more levels referred to a level-5 cap being a "deal breaker" and I think some of th...

Re: Another alignment question.
I think I see where you are coming from here. The issue seems to be that you have two needs in your campaign -- alignment for characters and alignment for factions in the campaign -- that one stat doesn't seem to fit both. If you focus on alignment for characters, then this messes up the "big p...
