Re: Why I love the DCC RPG
Castle white rock is one of the best mega dungeon moduals I have seen. Want to hear someting crazy though? when I tried to buy it from barnes and nobel they rang it up as 9.99 instead of 99.99. When I told the chasier lady that that was the wrong price she snaped rudley at me that it was the right ...

Re: When will the dice sets be available?
Um, is it just me or do alot of those dice look like they would be really easy to roll in a baised way. The d7 for example has a side with the 7 on it that is much larger surface area than the other faces of the die, so it seems like it is not going to be very good and generating random numbers. It...

Re: Any Prerequisites?
Though keep in mind that from a playtesting point of view, min/maxing is definitely a good thing. Part of the point of playtesting is to try to break the game.

Re: Why Levels?
I'll throw in with bholmes4 and dkeester here too. Levels are fun. They usually don't make any sense from a narrative standpoint. But a game with levels is almost Pavlovian in its capacity to keep players engaged and coming back to the table. I've played all sorts of games over the last 30 years. G...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1
I'll admit that 0-level games have been a blast, but I think eventually players may get bored with them. The problem is that 0-level adventures all sort-of resemble a Call of Cthulhu game, where insignificant investigators get bashed by extremely nasty badduns. I think that most fantasy gamers want...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1
I agree. I'm not sure if it will become boring after a while, which is why I hope we get a flood of 0-level adventures to choose from, but the concept of a group of average guys getting caught up in something bigger than all of them ... and only a few survive to become heroes ... is what the DCC RP...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1
I'm not so sure that starting at level 0 will always be desirable. There should be quite a bit of time between level 0 and level 1 to maintain some sort of realism. It would be kind of dumb for no-nothing peasants to get in a battle and the next day they suddenly have the ability to cast spells or ...

Re: Maps
Reading the concerns about the detail level of this amazing map: What about making the player's map the ultra-cool, fully illustrated one? Then have the GM map be more simplified, yet full of critical details. That way both the players and the GM can "oooo and Ahhh" over the quality artwo...

Hang on a minute, his cloak is blowing one way, his/her hair is blowing another way and the tassels on the staff are blowing slightly in between the two. Must be magic around! Or the wind is blowing toward the viewer, and the cloak, hair, etc. are whipping back and forth... :) The wind is blowing h...

Re: Appendix N Recommendations and Adventuring Parties
In The Hobbit, there is only one pc with his thirteen dwarf followers. Agreed. While the dwarves are all named, there are limited player characters in the group. Bilbo, of course, and perhaps you could argue that Thorin Oakenshield would have been a PC. Gandalf might be one, but he's pretty powerfu...

Playtest report - in character
One of my recent playtesters wrote up this report in character. He's a wizard with 4 Int, so his interpretation of things may be a bit skewed... And so it came to pass that I, the warlock Katada Demonbeard, known through all the lands as the Thurbinger of Doom, did go forth on another grand quest. I...

Re: Any playtest games at the Dicehead SIEGE con in Chattano
Machpants, I'm going to be in and around Auckland in the middle of July. It would please me no end to have a play ...

I truly wish this HAD gone through, because just those two ideas alone are AWESOME. I could do so much with both of those concepts. Its truly a shame more people didn't clue into DragonMech, because the setting it honestly one of the most unique and versatile I've ever seen. I won't convert it to f...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels
I want us all to win. I'm saying going from 1-5 is not a win. And I feel my opinion is being marginalized by the crowd who really has a say in the game's development. Hopefully Joseph, Harley, Tavis or someone sees the light on this issue because right now I feel like a gnat in a wind tunnel. It's ...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels
A 5th level DCC Wizard can't cast "indefinitely until he gets unlucky". His spell bonus decreases by one after each casting attempt. Nope, that's the cleric. It also (as the rules stand now) only decreases on successful checks. The wizard can cast a spell over and over and over again with...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels
And, again, I think that's a hard sell to prospective players: "You're going to be LESS powerful AND there's only FIVE levels!" I realize I'm in the minority when I say this, but to me that's a strong selling point. I usually start getting bored with D&D characters around levels 5-7 b...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels
Nobody cares in Call of Cthulhu about leveling up and getting new powers. Nobody plays Paranoia and feels that being Red Clearance all the time is restrictive. Why? Because no one really expects to make it through an entire adventure (much less a campaign) intact. Those rare characters that do survi...

Or Conan got a good critical hit. In DCC RPG terms, it might have been that the two were pretty evenly matched, but Conan got lucky. Part of the "balance by randomness" philosophy.joela wrote: the wizard had *very* low Hit Points
