Re: Thoughts on a simplified SRD game.
Is this like, "I foresee a crossroads in your future"? :) Keep in mind that the goal of DCC RPG is not to simplify 3E. The primary goal is to re-envision what D&D could have been if the creators focused their energies on adapting their inspirations to an existing rules set, rather tha...

Re: Curious about the DCC RPG packaging
The dice actually introduce some interesting mechanics. For example: in 3E and its variants, fighting with a weapon in both hands has typically been accomplished by rolling two d20's and subtracting a different number from each. You then have to do math. If your BAB is +6, you've got a Str modifier...

Re: What happened to these boards?
4th Edition happened. That's what got me. Until I got wind of a DCC RPG in the works I pretty much avoided all RPG related sites (save for CoC, which is actually how I got wind of the DCC RPG, came back to look at Goodman's modules for CoC) I agree with you there. Our group does not play 4e either....

Re: Curious about the DCC RPG packaging
To be honest, I think the inclusion of some of the weird dice (d3, d14, d16, d24, d30) are just going to cause more delay and headache than it will help with a cool appeal. While experienced gamers can do a d3 (1-2, 3-4, 5-6), d16 (d8 w/ high low), etc... It does slow the game down further because t...

Re: Supporting multiple systems within the DCC's
I'm also not interested in being the lightning rod for the edition wars. Apparently if I support Pathfinder it means 4E sales are terrible, whereas my ongoing support for Chaosium's BRP means 4E sales are okay? I run Goodman Games for fun, not profit, and when people post vitriolic messages because...

Re: Supporting multiple systems within the DCC's
Just to add my two cents worth also... 4e split our group into three groups. (liked, hated, did not care). I am definitely in the hated category, but our entire group did play enough 4e to participate in the DCC tourney the last two years. So we did get some solid experience with it. Since I am the ...

Re: Year Seven Tournament Preview
I am sorry to say that there will not be a Gen Con DCC tournament this year. I have some scheduling conflicts, and there won't be an "official" Goodman Games presence in the form of booth, tournament, etc. That's not to say it's gone forever - please don't read too much into this, as some...

Re: Year Seven Tournament Preview
- Set party. I love the "choose-a-team" design, but it can lead to teams getting hosed because they didn't take THE ONE CHARACTER that was perfect for the encounter. While we balance that out over the course of the entire module, next year we'll do something new. Every team will be compos...

Re: DCC Tournament 2009
The Blood Kings washed out in the first round. We actually handled the first fight pretty well, it took us a few rounds but they really did not do a great deal of damange to us overall. The telescope room ate up most of our time, but we were winning the fight when the time ran out. 2 spectral warrio...

Re: Year Six Tournament: Scroll of Ruin
Uggg... *yawn* I would like to thank the sadistically clever indivuduals that did the seven characters for the adventure. Because of you, most of the Blood Kings were up LATE last night testing the characters. I think I got home at about 2am... This year, there are not as many clear cut choices for ...

OK, and here you go. Up at the top is a stickied-and-locked thread that will go into the backstory of this year's DCC Open Tournament...this is merely going to be an expansion of the information the heroes will already know at the beginning of the tourney. Thank you for the write-up. Can you add th...

Re: GenCon 2009
So, having no experience w/ GenCon previously... what exactly is involved w/ the Goodman Games portion of the GenCon? I see you mentioning teams. Is it a gladiator type of event? Just curious mainly. I live in Portland and I'm not entirely certain I'll be going to this, but ya' never know, so I tho...

Re: DCC and Pathfinder
I can understand where you are coming from, but i don't think that putting some effort into Pathfinder would be a waste. It would in fact broaden the customer base, as there are some customers who are going to go with Pathfinder instead of 4E, and some, like me, who will be playing both games. I wo...

Our gaming group consists of:
2 DM's (who trade off playing and/or even co-DM)
6 players
Ususally we get 6-7 people who can show for a specific session.

New DCC's
Our group... like many others, has decided not to move forward into 4e. I will be honest, there are a few members of our group that would not mind moving forward. But there they are facing some very stout opposition! And yes, I am one of the players in opposition to going forward. I recently (two mo...

Yes, I would like to add mine and Celtar's thanks for setting up the Wednesday night tourney. We did enjoy ourselves and we used the additional experience of playing 4e in the DCC. As we only got to play 4e twice (as a group) before GC2008. Lucky for us the characters were first level and had powers...
