Re: What would the four 'core' appendix N classes be?

I prefer the big 3 of fighter, cleric, magic user.IMO.the addition of the thief began stripping role playing out and replacing it with roll playing. Before the thief, dms described traps, and pcs roleplayed disarming them. With the thief, it gets glossed over and reduced to a single dieroll, Boring.

Just had a thought: Rolling under will mean the unluckier you are, the more likely you are to survive. That doesn't make sense.

Left for dead DC?

What's the dc to be found not quite dead yet? The book says its a luck check, but doesn't say what the dc should be. I'm thinking 15 should be about right, but is there an official dc I missed?

Thanks.

Re: Elves and crits

I'll update the results here. May be a few weeks before my game starts. We're currently playing a Savage Worlds post apocalyptic game. My goal is not to simply make elves more powerful, but to make them more martial. Honestly, there's barely any difference between an elf and a wizard when it comes t...

Re: Elves and crits

Something akin to this has been asked during beta. Crit Table II is not worse at all compared to Crit Table III! Having looked more closely at the two tables, you are right, in many cases, table 2 is superior (numbers wise anyway) to table 3. I'll be leaving that as is, but I still want a more mart...

Re: Elves and crits

If you think that changing their crit die and crit table is not significant, then why do it? If you think it's signficant, then won't it change class balance? You seem to suggest that it's not a big change and I would tend to agree with you on that, myself. IT will change class balance, but only sl...

Re: Elves and crits

If that makes him too powerful, what does that say of the cleric? I'm not suggesting give him a d12 hd, the warrrior deed die, or crit table 5. I just want to make him as capable in melee as a cleric, which he still won't be due to a smaller hd and the inability to use metal weapons or armor.

And there's the problem. I WANT a class that is just as capable in melee as it is in magic. I haven't compared the two crit tables very closely, I'll take a closer look, thanks.

Elves and crits

I notice the lowly elf rolls on crit table 2. That's worse than anyone besides magic users. I'm thinking of bumping that up to table 3. My thinking is that a fighter/mu multiclass - and let's face it that's what the elf is - should at least be as good in combat as a cleric or halfling. Anyone think ...

Re: Do we really need clerics and magic healing?

I have played dozens of clerics over the years. I have never, EVER, played a healer. I prefer command instead of cure light wounds, sticks to snakes over cure serious wounds, and flame strike over cure critical wounds. Maybe I'll heal you if we have some down time, but being your pocket bandaid ain'...

Re: Searching the Room

If the Macguffin is under the bed, and a pc specifically says he looks under the bed, he finds it. If he says "I search the room" He gets a search check, but I mark off the time taken to search a room, usually 10 minutes, longer if it's especially cluttered. Which means more wandering mons...

Monster # attacks

I've noticed that some iconic monsters that normally have multiple attacks only have one attack in DCC. For instance, the gargoyle has "Atk claw +4 melee." Shouldn't gargoyles have more attacks? Or am I still stuck in AD&D mode? That's just one critter out of many I've found. It's simp...

Alignment

Being an AD&D player since 1981, off and on, I'm more used to the 9 alignment acxis than the 3 alignment system of OD&D and DCC. I'm unsure what alignment for npcs, and indeed, my own characters if I ever get to play instead of dm. Consider the following person: A man who works hard to give ...

The word man is not exclusive, it's gender neutral. It's a shortened version of human, which, last time I checked, included all of us.

Recommend me a one shot module for use with DCC

So the DM tonight in our AD&D game wants the night off and asked me to run something. I thought it would be a good idea to spring DCC on them. I need an adventure to run that can be completed in about 4 hours or so. Any ideas? I have a vast library of OD&D stuff, nothing 3e or later to speak...

Re: 3d6, in order

I'm not too sure I'm sold on 3d6 either. I love it when I drag out original D&D, but I'm a long time 1e player, so looking at crappy stats just seems to bother me in DCC. Idk why. I rolled up 4 characters and I really wouldn't want to be stuck with either for a permenant character. It would be a...

One out of three is a pretty high percentage. And yes, it only gives a penalty - at first level, the game doesn't end there. By 3rd level, there's a 3 in 5 chance, and a 20% chance of blinding your opponent for 1-4 rounds. All this with absolutely no penalty for attempting it. I'm not just picki9ng ...

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons

The -4 penalty is too harsh. There are enough penalties already for using a two handed weapon. You do 1 point extra damage and lose either the ability to make an off hand attack or the benefit of a shield. Either is much more effective than one measly point of damage, a -4 to initiative makes two ha...

Re: Warrior Mighty Deed of Arms

I really, really dislike MDoD. I foresee encounters strewn with blinded, tripped, and disarmed people all over the place. Instead of fast and furious combat, we have people fumbling for weapons, getting up from prone, and flailing blindly about. Not really my idea of fun combat. Throwing sand in som...

I'd like to see the thief as a lightly armored mobile fighter. Maybe just trade any armor other than studded leather (or elven chain) and any weapon larger and heavier than a long sword for the various thieving skills and call it a day. He'd also need to lose the keep and replace it with a thieves g...
