Indeed, for the fluffy aspect, this is a complete non-issue. It would be silly to imagine those items are available everywhere at any time. Yes, that is my impression from the book as well.
However, it seemed strange to me that there are three Patron spells and at maximum, a character could only receive two of those.
Again, I am likely overthinking it.

My more pressing question is, "Why does a Warhammer have the same gold cost as a Mace?"
Outside of concepts such as availability, there doesn't seem to be much of a crunchy reason to use the latter.

I seem to be confused about precisely how Patron spells work and my scouring of the book offers no help. Thus, I beseech you!
