What do we assume is in the wizard's apprentice's grimoire? Nothing. To me it's a blank receptacle. Probably a very nicely bound book, with parchment suitable for scribing spells, but definitely not a "loaded gun." I can see the reasoning behind that, but I can't agree with it. To my mind...

I typically wouldn't allow a player to cast spells at 0 level. Characters have their occupational skills, trade tools, and random equipment to rely on, but do not possess a class. If there was an exception to this rule I should think it might revolve around an item, such as an arcane scroll, talism...

Next May, my local gaming convention has asked for themed adventures based around either the elements, or the elemental planes, or some combination of the two. You could probably use this chart for MA too….. not much magic there if any. Items are mostly for random flavor and for invoking fun things like poodle checks. I gave each of the pregens I use in TAU mostly tribal level stuff, but each PC gets two cool/useful items above and beyond. These included healing berries, infrared googles, poison, flashlights, a laser pistol, a protein disruptor, and a color band. Not all were inherently useful in the adventure, ...

My favourite MA Easter egg was the shout out that appeared in C1 The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan. The small silver fish-like statuette with Elven runes that says II-NEDRAW, that will float around and fly away from the PCs.
