I'm glad to hear that its done too... What I don't understand is that, if its already finished (and there will be copies available at the con) why will it take until November before its released to the general public? Oops. perhaps I spoke too soon about the ABSOLUTE level of completion of Castle W...

the return of Topographic Rex
hah! You thought you all had escaped me from these boards at last! But I return. Anyway...[cough, cough], I'm back . Umm, on the boards, that is. I never really went anywhere, unless you count the little vacations I take from sanity, from time to time. Having recently surfaced from the map and desig...

I run on All Windows platforms....except Vista. For that you've got to transplant my brain, add another eye to my face and sing sweet blues to me. Actually, it's very simple. I use Illustrator for the DCC maps. But there are certain tips and tricks to create the consistency necessary for these maps,...

I was just hoping for a few maps with smaller scales (not the entire world, but perhaps a few areas that contained a noteworthy number of already-published adventures). I'm not sure what to do, as a DM, with simply a large-scale map for adventures. But the setting sounds too intriguing to pass up. ...

I just like the handle "bobrunnicles" How can anyone not like that? I hear you on the old maps feel, I like those kinda maps too. Maybe on another project we might try something different, but as Jeff says, this time we felt this was the way to go. Nonetheless, I like that you brought up t...

Forests and Lakes and Topography, oh my!
Greetings, and I guess I should put in my two cents here. First of all, it's good to see that you're so interested in the maps and your observations are all issues that were considered at some point. I'll try to explain my approach and reasoning blow-by-blow here: * Lakes : The coloring is intention...

The Poagster
Yea, props to Stephan. Stephan was sole artist on my adventure, and I must say he came to play. I was a bit concerned when I heard I had only one artist -because one of the cool things about the DCC illos is that several artists (Brad, Jason, et al) contribute and give it a lot of different looks- b...

Re: Topographic Rex can relax...for now.
Heh. Maybe I'm just Bear-Stupid. I'm working on scaling that back a little, but my exuberance gets the best of me. Never. No scaling it back my friend, I was just making fun. You gotta be who you are, and your -2 subdual damage hugs are a part of that. :P I'm thinking DCC phase two has begun. Pirat...

Topographic Rex can relax...for now.
Wow. Thanks for the good reviews of the maps (and the rest, of which I am confident once you've had some time to digest it. Harley, Jeff and Mike did an amazing job, especially given the sheer size of the project!). The printers nailed my color settings on the maps, so for that I am indescribably re...

Re: DCC #12.5 Follow up
There's a small con in the area and I was thinking about running this for some of the oldschoolers that come to the con. Not sure how much time I have, so still uncertain about whether to do as a one-session event or as a multi-session tourney. I would LOVE to join in this one at GenCon (if you're ...

Berating authors... hmm, I'm so there. J/K... looking forward to tearing into a box set and looking over the maps right away. :D Uh oh. How fast will they sell out?
How fast will the Box Set sell out at GenCon? If you wanna get a copy in August and not wait, I suggest getting to GenCon in the first couple of days. I know Joseph will get as many copies as he can, but since all of us involved in the project have been told that we might not get contributor copies ...

old school crust and prestige classes
Hah! I couldn't agree more. 'Old-School Gaming' for me is just regular old gaming, but I have to remember that I'm sort of an old man too. I recall peeling off with glee the low-grade shrink wrap from the next Gygax doozy and the thing is, the joy of that isn't just a nostalgia thing now, I thought ...

Thanks for the reply toper. I'm sure I'll be very happy with this setting come September, maps and all. I always like to use a homebrew setting, but this may change that. So far, I'm very happy with what I'm seeing and hearing. Any chance of some more sneak previews? Bigger map? Maybe a few pages f...

QUESTION: I may have missed it, but is DCC#35 going to make a debut at GENCON by any chance? I see that the release date is September, but plenty of big releases like this find their way to GenCon... Thanks for finding that post, it's good to see that word's getting about so fast, and I think people should always weigh any large purchase, considering how much stuff is out there these days (and not all of it good). playing the DCC world
Yah, agree with Jeff there my friend. Just start in an innocuous setting: choose a climate and then invent some generic wilderness (desert, mountains, icy tundra, jungle, pine forest, etc...it's all represented!), and maybe a ruin to explore and that should last you for more than a couple of session...

DMs on salary!
Hear hear!
Excellent point, Jeff. Who will really remember the Stroh/Fergus/LaSala/Simmons/Goodman team who created this world? As long as they remember Aereth, I'll be content.
Of course, I'd like to be rich and famous too...but I think I picked the wrong bloody profession for that.

A Box Set and a Dream
Actually, in reference to Harley's insights above (his self-described "cheesy moment"), I can't imagine a better way to say it. But I'll stumble through my own addendum to his thoughts: Are we nerds for playing D&D? Probably. But then I like to think I'm a nerd for reasons that go FAR ...
