Building a City based adventure

Hi fellow Judges. May I ask for some advice? I've been running DCC RPG at my club and I've so far gone from the modules, stripping them down to a single 3 hour session each. The players currently have some level 1 characters and I wanted for our next session to attempt to sand box things in a city, ...

DDC RPG In London on 8 April 2015

If you, yes you, are in the old London Town (that's the one in England) on 8 April 2015, I will be running a 0-level character funnel at Hackney Area Tabletop Enthusiasts (the Hate Club). Its at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club in London's fashionable Hackney. Expect booze, boisterousness and oddly ...

Re: London England Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG - places open

I've applied the jump leads to my nipples (metaphorically speaking) and I'm back on for running a game of DCC RPG in London. No date set yet, but it'll a couple of one off sessions held at Hackney Area Tabletop Enthusiasts (HATE: http://hate-club.org/). The club meets on Wednesday evenings at Bethna...

Oh well - there's plenty of down sides to the Big Smoke Raven_Crowking. Try buying a pint for less than £3.50!

Re: Roman Pantheon detailed: Jupiter, Apollo

These are great. One suggestion, would it be interesting to put some of the capriciousness of the gods that you see in poetry and tragedies (specifically Ovid and Euripides, rather than, say, Virgil)? Could there be a spell in there which calls on the aid of Jupiter you could come down in the form o...

Re: Four fixes for DCC

Excellent posts. The idea of adventuring being an arms race is all over Appendix N - especially in the Elric saga. I can think of lots of times he thinks he's got the right spell, the right demonic and elemental alliances, and then he has to face the panic of something he didn't account for coming o...

Re: Four fixes for DCC

Very quick point on spell burn - you can recover the abilities scores in time, but there are physical consequences. I rolled and my dude pulled his hair out with his fists and now my character has a no scalp. He has to wear a turban to cover it up. You may be able to recover the stats, but what abou...

Re: Mercurial Magic - Who uses it?

People have to use Mercurial Magic! I rolled up a magic user recently and Mercurial Magic totally makes the character. The best combination so far is another character in the party who kills millions of people in another dimention every time he cast Hold Portal! talk about moral dilema.

Re: Law vrs Chaos

This one of those subjects we could talk about till the cows come home. I forget where I heard it (might have been the Save or Die podcast) but I think the most elegant solution to how to set things up for players when DMing is just to say that there are two rival pantheons - one chaotic, the other ...

Re: Shul God of the Moon

For these and many other reasons, I chose to send Shul through Gender re-alignment therapy when I was organizing the blizzard of Deities available in DCC#35 for my gaming environment. Great post. Not a god, but talk of gender bending and soothsayers immediately reminded me of the mythical Greek pro...

Re: Shul God of the Moon

Thanks - just did a quick Wikipedia hunt for Shul and other male moon gods. I think the bits I like at the moment are giver of language, which seems live the archetypal thing for a lawful deity to do, the idea of it being secretive cult - knowledge is a lonely source of illumination in the darkness,...

Re: Show off your Appendix N

Rather than just firing questions at people, I thought I'd put something back with a pic of my (very modest) Appendix N collection. Last year I started going through Appendix N systematically, and I'm really enjoying it. The Tolkien, Poe, Beowulf and Lovecraft are books I had prior to this. I hope t...

Underground Skill question

Could I ask for help with one of the rules? On the Dwarf class information, the text says the dwarf gets a bonus to detect traps etc when underground: 'Underground Skills' (page 52). What is this bonus? is it a +1 or +2 to skill checks? I couldn't find where this might be set out. Sorry if this is s...

Re: clarification on Mighty Deeds of Arms

My group came across the very question in our latest game - what if the action dice + deed dice scores a hit but the deed dice is a low roll. Why wouldn't you always call a mighty deed of arms? Here's my 2 cents (2p!). I'm happy with there not being a drawback to calling a mighty deed of arms - I in...

Shul God of the Moon

Hi all - I've just started running a DCC RPG game and one of my clerics has chosen Shul, Goddess of the Moon, as their deity. I'm going to start building up some background to this goddess but wanted to ask, so I have steer on how to start, are there real-world mythological gods she might be based o...

Thanks for the feedback finarvyn. Yikes, I do need a 12 don't I?! Good point about changing the order too. I will edit in due course. Re: Five Years Later...

I have just started DMing the DCC RPG game I'm in and was confronted by this very problem. My solution was to roll 3d6 to represent the value of silver the group as a whole might have picked up along the way (i.e. looted). Looking back, I think I might do it differently. Of course the DCC way would ...

Re: Were Elven Clerics a big historical mistake?

yeah!!! That essay is in Wizardry and Wild Romance by Moorcock as well. That book has Epic Pooh in it too. Excellent - its going on the list! I'm anti elven clerics purely on the basis that I think multi-classing is too fiddly and a distraction in my games. I also like the idea of elves being as ma...
