Re: Are wizards too powerful in your campaign?
Magic should come with benefits and perils. Perhaps you could add perils associated to the use of magic in your game. For example, you seem to suggest that the wizards call on their patron frequently. What patrons are these? Are they like, slaves to the wizards, to be at their beck and call whenever...

Re: Strength check query
I like the discussion in this thread. To me, skill or competence checks (all RPGs considered) are usually way overused by most GMs. Back in the day of AD&D, we rarely asked for checks. Since I've played D&D 3E, rolemaster, Call of Cthulhu and other skill-heavy systems, skill checks became ve...

Maledict repeats the words as a child would do when tought a song.
"Fearing nothing, downward go
The Pool of Life-Giving lies below
Ye seek now the Fane of Mulmo!"
He pauses.
"Down to the Well of all wells!"
He still waits for Han to lead the way.

Re: Bringing back roll-under attribute checks?
I use the roll under mechanic almost exclusively. And as noted by RC, I also use the dice chain to increase/decrease the die as the situation warrants, to make checks easier or tougher. I love the dice chain which is very DCC-esque and gives a mechanical flavor to the game. This said, I try not to a...

Re: True Player Engagement...
I pretty much agree with gnomeboy on all accounts. I'm a part-time actor and I do some improv. I think that RPing is closest to imrov if anything. And for that to work, it requires players to be opened to another another's energy and initiatives; and it requires imagination. Not much more IMO. The b...

Re: True Player Engagement...
I of course have no absolute answer to that question. Here are a few thoughts: - don't expect or hope players to have what you call "true investment" - players will have fun if a confluence of criteria are met: good story, good GMing, fun group of players, and other stuff that is hard to p...
