The way I would play this-- unless otherwise specified, the plus bonus of the shield would be conferred upon every benefit it conveys. My take has been, it's situational. Not a flat rate at all. Could be a "perception" check, could be something else. It depends on the circumstance. I sort of like the flexible approach myself.

I think Finarvyn raises some good points, but I would be wary of running a funnel as a one shot. In my funnel attempt , it was surprising how quickly folks became attached to their "team" members, even though they knew going in they were going to die. I think the funnel is cool as the star...

I went with a Treasure Hunt theme myself. The group was shipwrecked on a scaled-down version of the Isle of the Ape. It worked quite well, I thought.

If it's a Luck check, I believe you'd use the method on page 19. Roll less than character's Luck score on 1d20.
