Just finished chapter 1. Already Cugel the clever is one of my favorite fantasy characters. This chapter gave me several ideas that will be used in future games.

Appendix N Book Club July 2014:The Dying Earth by jack Vance
Going to modify the way we are doing this. People have lives and sometimes a book a month is just easier to manage. So for July we are going to tackle " The Dying Earth " by Jack Vance. If you want to pick up a nice collection that also contains " The Eyes of the Overworld ," &qu...

Planet Stories: Manly Wade Wellman "Who Fears the Devil?" is available through Paizo. There is a nice collection of Jack Vance "Tales of the Dying Earth" for about $20.00 that you can order through any major chain book store.

Re: True Player Engagement...
Keep in mind that it takes a few sessions for the players to become invested in their characters. While the 0-Level Funnel helps, it still might be several sessions before the players care. DCC is a lethal game, characters can die easily, that is also playing against you. The best advice I can offer...

Re: Portal under the stars continuation
I have ran that one a few times myself. While there is no direct sequel to that adventure, it is a great jumping off point to whatever you want to do next. Examples: 1. Following the adventure, the surviving characters are changed, they cannot simply go back to their old lives. Do a time jump of a f...

Re: Appendix N Book Club: Hawkmoon: The Jewel in the Skull
Finished it this morning. I found some ideas in the book very gaming inspirational..the Black Jewel, the Caravan of Agonosvos, etc. Really quick read. I did a little research and it seems that Moorcock wrote this series very quickly which explains the rushed feel the book has for me. I did enjoy the...

Re: Appendix N Book Club: Hawkmoon: The Jewel in the Skull
I enjoyed Hawkmoon was based in the Camargue, its a place with a peculiar kind of landscape, look for some images or videos, and it's only at two hour by train from my town :-D Just checked out those images. Way cool! I'm reading it right now... It kind of reminds me of Flash Gordon with the ornith...

No problems. Once we open a thread, the discussion will remain open. The main thing is that we have an open thread to discuss the books.

Re: Free RPG day
Free RPG day seems be losing steam in my area. 4 years ago, there was a lot of participation from the local gaming stores, but over the last few years more and more gaming stores have abandoned RPGs for CCGs. Last year I had to travel an hour and half to locate store, this year a friend and I are tr...

Gotcha! So you LUCK mod. changes as you spend/gain luck. Your "lucky sign" modifier stays the same no matter what.
Thank you both for clearing that up for me.

Re: Luck Check
Related LUCK question, on page 19 of the rules it states that a character's "lucky roll modifier does NOT change over time as the character's Luck changes." I have played in two games where the Judge has modified the characters luck modifier as the have spent luck. I was told that was a mi...

Hello! I am longtime fan and was actually part of the DCC Playtest and played in the Dicehead Games playtest of Module #71 "The 13th Skull." Our claim to fame was we were the playtest group that managed to save the duke's daughter. I played the thief and while the rest of the party attacke...

Appendix N Book Club: Hawkmoon: The Jewel in the Skull
Thought it would be fun to start reading some Appendix N books with other fans. Thought I would start with Michael Moorcock's Hawkmoon series. The goal is to knock out a book every week. Feel free to discuss what you liked, what you didn't, what ideas inspired you for your game, where you see this b...
