Re: The Original Appendix N (reposted)
Totally agree. If you look at the little vignettes he wrote in the dmg like the spell-for-hire part where he is demonstrating how characters and npcs might interact it comes off as very Vancian indeed, at least in my opinion. As good as Vance was for D&D, you have to think Gygax paid him back in...

Re: local color -- illustrations from various editions of th
I agree, Roslofian indeed. Lots of the old paperbacks had really nice interior pen and ink scenes. Seems like it maybe went out of fashion, a shame. They weren't always fantastic, but a pretty good % seem to be more than decent, and they always seem to have a lot of charm. Sometimes names would do t...

Re: Appendix N - after 1978.
Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe has an appendix n vibe in my opinion. I think it came out in 1980.

Re: Appendix N Comic Books
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. If you are only familiar with the movie, this GREATLY expands the plot in scope and story-telling. Tremendous art, weird mind powers, giant bug monsters, ancient high-tech wizardry buried in the overgrown ruins of the Sea of Corruption, a toxic jungle of gigantic ...

Re: Desperately Seeking Dice of Normal Size
I think ARMORY has more reasonably sized d30's--25mm. The Koplow d30 is 34mm according to gamestation's "advanced dice finder" search engine. I don't like the bigger d30's either. The dice finder seems to only show the 25mm d30's with the sharp edges, but I know I have seen smaller regular...

Re: Appendix N find: The Spell of Seven
One of the cool things about Spell of Seven is that it has Virgil Finlay illustrations, my fav is the bubble-helmet wearing spiders for Bazaarr of the Bizarre.

Re: Zocchi Dice Buyer's Guide
Thanks Haiiro. I think the armory does have what I have, a small non-precision d30, only the one they have is called "blue gold shimmer." It doesn't say how big they are, my green one looks to be 25 or 26mm, the big ones I have seen have to be at least 30mm. Another cool thing about the cr...

Re: Zocchi Dice Buyer's Guide
We always used crayons, that way the numbers can have the colour that shows up the best. Does anyone know where to get smaller d30s? I have this metallic green one that is a lot smaller than the other ones I have seen, like just a tiny little bit bigger than most d20s. But I fished it out of a loose...

Re: Books that should be in Appendix N
Dune would be fine for appendix N, there are plenty of at least sci-fi-ish books on the original list. If Gygax can give an example in the DMG of transporting the party to Tschai from Jack Vance's Planet of Adventure, there would be nothing wrong with tearing it up with sand worms and fremen in my o...

Nicholson is really something, completely unique thing going on there. One glance is enough to tell you it is RN. Just fantastic. I imagine hijinks ensue if A Boy and his Mastodon meets up with A Princess and her Unicorn.

I agree with Booberry, a Vance fan will find something to dig with Songs. Some dross, mostly decent, a few gems.

Re: Pure Zocchi - Remove the d30?
There are smaller d30s around, but boy they are hard to find, at least in my experience. I found one in a cool little gaming shop, then tried to look online cause others in my group could only find the golf ball sized ones. One guy had a huge d30 that was even bigger than a golf ball. The one I foun...

I don't reckon it would take that much time to just make some chits. It might not be what some what many folks are used to, but something different might be neat.

Awesome. Tramp should be on that list. Him and Otus are the Mick and Keef show of classic RPG art!
