Re: BETA: What has been learned?

Back to the point, interjecting too many "decision points" (i.e., different occupation table depending on X or Y) and building in reasons for mechanical differentiations between characters (i.e., possibility of dwarf having different stats than elf) starts down a different path than what ...

Re: Perception checks

What ability goes with spotting things? Immediately we can through out Strength, Agility and Stamina. According to page 53 (bottom right) the Key Abililty is Intelligence. Searching and spotting: Intelligence Talking in [3.X] terms, Wisdom describes Perception/Intuition and Willpower: in DCC Percep...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all

Why reward the players at the same time? I think it comes down to whether your group is more cooperative or competitive. [...] I find that rewarding the entire party at the same time works great for me. Well, you asked. 8) Thanks for the explanation. I agree that equivalent simultaneous reward of X...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all

I'm not a fan of different xp tables as I want to reward my players, who will all have gone through the same trials and adventures, at the same time. One player should not get the benefit of advancing sooner than others just because he plays a different class. Why reward the players at the same tim...

Re: 3d6, in order

My experience has been like what Joseph has described: people that wouldn't otherwise touch random generation of stats AT ALL with a 10' pole are willing to do 3D6 in order for a set of level zeroes. The funnel changes the experience in a lot of ways, not all of which I would have anticipated. I'm ...

Re: Corruption and Spell Fumble

You could assign a corruption die to every spell. Order the chart so that the highest results are worse than the lower results. The size of the die would be a little subjective and be based on things like spell level, how much the spell alters reality, whether the spell does damage, etc. This could...

Re: Corruption and Spell Fumble

It could also be swapped around so that a 1 result is always a Spell Fumble and the die you roll on the Spell Fumble table depends on spell level much as regular fumbles depend on the armor you are wearing (d16 for level 1, d14 at level 2, d12 level 3, d10 level 4 and d8 at level 5). Then low/bad r...

Re: Corruption and Spell Fumble

Maybe something with a d20+(characteristic bonus). I can see this concept is fairly hardwired into the gamer psyche now, but can I suggest this is the default mechanic to use for fail/succeed rolls against AC/DCs. We're not talking about that situation here. We need a level-of-failure roll when som...

Re: Corruption and Spell Fumble

Stainless, Anselyn, I see the logic of biasing the corruption to worse outcomes for higher level magic cast.[...] Since the highest Luck modifier you can get is +3 (not including a halfling luck charm) .. That's why my suggestion that perhaps I should have highlighted more clearly  was to move...

Re: Corruption and Spell Fumble

On face value, corruption does look to be too common an outcome. I'm willing to play as written to see how it pans out, but I suspect I will house rule it to; On a natural 1, roll a Luck check with a DC of 10. Add any Luck bonus and subtract the Level of spell cast minus 1 (e.g., a Level 2 spell ge...
