Re: Will there be playtesting at Levels 6 to 10 ?

I agree with the levels 1-5 being fleshed out and fully operational sentiment. Especially if 6-10 isn't even in the beginnings of writing. However, I've already plopped down $40 for a pre-order and I'm not sure if a Basic book with levels 1-5 is worth that. Now, a Basic boxed set with (Zocchi) dice ...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA

Honestly, I'd like to see an updated PDF with the spell tables fixed and several higher level spells. Hell, if the Beta released a new PDF each month leading up to final release, with new/revised little tidbits in each release, that'd be amazing and keep people's interest for the long-haul and throu...

I know a way to limit corruption.

Limit your spellcasting.

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?

I think in its current state, there is a lot to be desired. I really hope the end-game has more to offer for the DM in terms of campaign play. I'm not sure what that'd look like at the moment, but I know I want it.

Re: Portal Under the Stars

More thoughts: I wish Portal Under the Stars had ramped up toward the deadlier traps vs. having the first three rooms be insanely deadly. This had the effect of putting the players on super-defensive to where they really missed the concept of interacting with their environment further than they abso...

Re: Portal Under the Stars

Interesting. On average about 1 in 36 characters rolled will have an 18 in a score, and less than 1 in 500 will have an 18 and another stat of 17 or higher. So, I'm a bit surprised that after all that the player isn't interested in running that character further. This particular player was a wife o...

Portal Under the Stars (6/19 Louisville, KY)

Had four players over last night for Free RPG Day (homebrewed) and I let them roll up 3 0-levels each (for a total of 12 PCs). I was pretty generous with clues for the most part. The lone dwarf in the party died from the searing flames of the first door. The Astrologer of the group chipped out the c...

Re: Perception checks

I know what the book says. And I know how 3e works. The flaw with bringing 3e into the equation is that 3e has no luck ability. DCCRPG does. My post was a suggestion to make a CHANGE to the rules. Comment on that. Isn't Luck a better fit for perception checks? Or not? Why or why not? Discuss. Intel...

Re: Weapon Training (Page 16)

Why not scrap the -4 penalty altogether, for 0-levels and for classed characters? Just have untrained weapons do a reduced damage die and use a worse crit table. That way if anybody wants to hit someone over the head with a chair or fence with a fireplace poker or try to backstab the king in the ga...

Another consideration: there's also only a 10% chance you'll get an elf as an occupation at 0-level. Then, you have to worry about her surviving the funnel.

You're not totally inaccurate. The 3d6 down-the-line isn't DCC unique, but it's certainly a specific way to play for DCC compared to other games in the genre. ;)

Re: changing the tone of DCC (long but heartfelt)

Like, the 3d6 down the line for attributes for example. Lots of D&D games muck with that. For this game, Mr. Goodman wants you to do it his particular way. And, it's important to say that because it suits his vision for how the game should be played. Most of the retro-clones are just like this ...

Re: changing the tone of DCC (long but heartfelt)

However, I'm still in if the tone stays. I actually approve of in-your-face this-is-the-way-it-is style of communicating. I've just interacted with so many other people with different styles at work that that experience is starting to bleed over into my real life--I mean my gaming life. I think if ...

Re: changing the tone of DCC (long but heartfelt)

The tone is what makes this game stand apart from other games. It's the first thing that caught my eye (along with the art), drew me in and made me want to play. You can tell the author has a particular vision for his game, and that speaks to game design goodness (the author knows what he wants and ...
