Re: Next two covers
...Will there be any way to tell at a glance which modules are DCC RPG, and which say DCC but are for other RPGs like 3e or 4e? I am not being snarky when I ask: The layout and art style is not enough??? *gen-u-wine-ly confused* I know it and you know it :D , but I'm wondering about more casual gam...

Re: Next two covers
The title "Emerikol Was Framed" had me laughing out loud. Love the art for "Blades Against Death". Especially the 'fro. I have a question about the numbering and DCC heading on the modules. They are not being numbered from the beginning of the line of DCC RPG material, but rather...

Re: Problems and Suggestions after Weeks of Play (Long)
Thanks for the detailed reply! Here are some quick notes in response... 1. The names of ability scores. We have a mix of previous D&D players and players who’ve never played RPGs before. Also DCC is really similar to D&D. It’s just confusing given these two factors to reference non-standard...

Re: A couple of observations upon reading the beta...
It was not until the rise of modern Feminism in the education system back in the '70s and '80s that the concept of "man" and male pronouns was bullied into the category of discriminatory. You just don't get it. Context is not always clear. My sociolinguistics class had this gawd aw...

Re: A couple of observations upon reading the beta...
Actually, most women I talk to appreciate it when you include some sort of gender reference. Of course some don't care, but those that do appreciate the little things like including a few hers and shes once in a while. It really shouldn't be a big deal for anyone. It has less to do with PC (<b>f*ck...

Re: A couple of observations upon reading the beta...
And I'm not particularly keen on gender exclusive language. If you all ask the point of being inclusive, I have to ask the point of being exclusive. Why? Nanstreet, male pronouns and "mankind" are not gender exclusive. All of the romance languages use the male phrase as both exclusive and...

Re: A couple of observations upon reading the beta...
I agree. Why? I, for one am up to my gills with the whole PC movement. To the point, I'm offended by this squirrelly gender-neutral language push the PC crowd wants. Nothing personal towards you Dunbruha, or Red Sonja! :) And I'm not particularly keen on gender exclusive language. If you all ask th...

Re: again about MDoA ...
Look for the "Xbows, Two handed weapons & equalizing damage thread". There you can find the houserule i'm applying to weapon usage! How is it working out in play? I like the 1 action=1 action die aspect. I'm so used to how D&D has always done two weapon fighting, but I've never fe...

Re: again about MDoA ...
Speaking of MDoAs, have you guys been playing that you only roll the attack die once each round and apply it to every attack (even the dwarf shield attack)? I don't like that since all of the MDoA will succeed or all fail. To me it would make more sense to reroll the attack die with every attack. A...

Re: Random Encounter Table ...?
PS: i'm not asking for R.E. tables to be added to the core book! I just want to know if : 1)having R.E. in DCCRPG seems fine (i have no exp in Appendix N sources); 2)this table seems fine for a 2nd level party. I like random encounters. I think it's adds to the let-the-dice-fall-where-they-may elem...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
Currently the beta rules say that luck can be used to modify the spellcheck rolls. That's similar to using it for rolling extra damage or modifying crit rolls. I hope the use of luck with spellchecks is removed to be more consistant (plus, it seems redundant, since spellburn can be used to modify a...

Re: Halflings & 2 weapons
i think I gave the idea that you use one hand to parry (always) in both the offensive and defensive options (A&B) for 2-weapons fighting: offensive, only 1 weapon deals damage, the one that rolls higher, the other is automatically considered "parrying" more than "attacking",...

Re: Mini campaign, level up after each session.
I like your idea of level up after every session, and I am looking forward to your 2nd level report.
Looks like there will be a huge disparity in hp between the party members. That should be interesting, and good for the playtest to examine extremes.

Re: Critical Hit Chart, first thoughts...
Having seen the imfamous 8-panel DMing screen in picture recently (that's 8-panels, 16 sides, mostly charts and some artwork, apparently), I am again feeling trepidation about the ammount of charts in this game. Having looked over the critical hit charts, there seems to be a lot of redundancy. Is th...

Re: Will there be playtesting at Levels 6 to 10 ?
I am not an adherent of the more modern design philosophy that "every level X power should have the same mathematical output and just change the flavor text." Math is a part of game design, but just a part, and the play experience is most important of all. I acknowledge that magic missile...

Smathis, great post . I haven't had the opportunity to playtest yet so I've been hoping for playtest reports like this that detail how the mechanics work out in actual play, especially at higher level.

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
Toning down the power of those high rolls might warrant lowering the fizzle rate. Heck, give the Wizard a class die and have them lose spells on a 1-2 on it, lower the fizzle rate, and allow them to fizzle but not lose their spells (well, unless the class die is a 1-2 at the same time as the fizzle...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
Swords will probably miss 2 out of five swings (or more against higher ACs) even for that trained warrior. I think the attraction for wizards is the insane power with those high rolls. That's the trade off for a 40% fizzle rate. Toning down the power of those high rolls might warrant lowering the fi...

It fails 40+% of the time. That's crazy. What tool do you use of a continuing basis that fails outright ... 40% of the time? Magic is so unreliable only stark raving mad lunatics should be involved in it. Rational people don't devote their livelihoods to something with such low odds. While not perf...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
My point is: characters, parties, and adventures are rated by level . An adventure for 3rd level characters..., etc. The are not rated by XP: An adventure for characters with 4,000 XP. In all but one rare instance (a successful long-term campaign), level--not XP--is the driver. Therefore, IMHO, hav...

Re: Critical Hits and Burning Luck
Some rolls are pass-fail (like an attack roll) and some are on a kind of menu (like the critical hit chart). Maybe the first kind should allow for luck to be spent before or after the roll, but the menu rolls should only allow for luck being spent before the roll to prevent cherry picking of results...

Re: Beta Testing Questions from my group.
Burning luck after the roll seems like the smart way to do it. It occured to me that that puts Thieves in an interesting position. They get more luck points than anyone, but the ammount is random unlike for other characters. They could burn enough for a guaranteed outcome, or risk that the luck die ...

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons
If you are going to have an initiative roll modifier I'd much rather tie it to the armor worn, as that is unlikely to change in combat and it is understandable that someone in plate has more inertia to overcome. That kinda makes sense. Personally, I would like to see armor training in the game as w...

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons
The -4 penalty is too harsh. There are enough penalties already for using a two handed weapon. You do 1 point extra damage and lose either the ability to make an off hand attack or the benefit of a shield. Either is much more effective than one measly point of damage, a -4 to initiative makes two h...
