Re: Elves, Wizards, Balance, Oh My!
Maybe the balance is this, if you roll an elf, your stuck playing an elf despite your rolls! .......when a wizard shows up it is likely that that wizzard will be much more optimized for spell casting then any elf (of course, the rare elfe that dose have aswome states will be pretty strong). Yes, I ...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
I think luck should be allowed to adjust monster to hit rolls to allow pcs to avoid getting hit as well I disagree, I think there should always be the chance that the opposition got lucky. Thieves could become invincible otherwise, especially in one-shot sessions. Thieves avoid getting hit by being...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
One of the Free RPG Day adventures was apparently a 5th level delve. How was this handled? I've played in a session of four 5th lvl wizards and another where I DM'd Harley's module. I just used the 1st Level spells. The obvious effects of higher levels stood out: - two spells per round really ups t...

Re: Higher Level Spells for BETA
And i bet my buckler everyone is waiting to see level 3 Fireball/Lightning  Not me :) I think the blaster spells are too D&D but I know I'm probably in the minority judging from the spell threads. So far I like how the spells work, especially condensing all those spells into Cantrip, but ...

Re: Ability Score Modifier Progression
I think the DCC progression is spot on perfect, it really works well with the fluctuating stats and rolling a 3 or an 18 should be special.

Was there any word on whether these would be available in pdf format? I'd love to check it out, but the closest participating retailer is about a two hour drive each way. upthread: The Free RPG Day product will indeed be available for download and print purchase after Free RPG Day. Probably about a...

Re: Spellburn abuse with Patron Bond, Find Familiar etc.
The problem remains though. Spellburning during an adventure has an effect, a cost. Spellburning between adventures doesn't, it's resolved offscreen with no hindrance to the caster's activities.

Re: Warriors: "Lucky Weapon"
I dislike the steady powercreep of stackable +1 modifiers and prefer that a warrior's lucky weapon just ignores all negative Luck modifiers. Using this method the lucky weapon is a greater boon to Low-luck characters or those whose Luck fluctuates to low levels due to burning it. Charcters who alway...

Re: Spellburn abuse with Patron Bond, Find Familiar etc.
Our DM noticed this about downtime. He asked me 'Why wouldn't all the characters be Patron-bonded by the wizard, with the caster spellburning so they can always call for major boons or instant warriors to aid them?' His remedy is to disallow downtime - move on to the next adventure, make the campaig...

Rainy Saturday in Newcastle....Just back from my FLGS, spent the ride back on the Metro grinning after poring over the Adventure Starter - great work chaps, there's a lot of cool and nasty ideas in there and the art/maps look great in print.

Re: No Skill Chapter
Actually, I prefer the Luck die as-is. That would effectively double the proposed funky die modifier, and really help the Thieves out. So you would have the player be able to spend as much Luck in one go as possible -like in the Beta rules? What I mean is limiting the player to spending 1d3 for wha...

Re: No Skill Chapter
For Thieves if you also burn 1 point of Luck you get a sweet modifier: 2d3 avg (class die + Luck die) = +4 2d4 avg = +5 2d5 avg = +6 2d6 avg = +7 2d7 avg = +8 So if I were using this I would change the expenditure when you burn luck. Maybe just 1d3 each time, whatever your level. So a Thief who not...

It definitely beefs up the standard attack (without MDoA), making it an option rather than always going for MDoA.

Re: 3d6, in order
I am not a fan of adjusting the abilities as you level up. DCC RPG does not really scale well to continual increasing of ability scores. It is optimally designed for one or two +1/-1 and the rest midline. If we start to raise ability scores, you will start to add power creep to the game... Yes, I t...

Re: Spell Duels: The New Grappling?
Sean, was there any moment of "now... where were we?" when the duel was over? No, but all of us were involved. The only 'normal' round actions were by the skeletons and they didn't last long. Actually the whole duel didn't take long due of the amount of damage dealt at 5th Level. In a mix...

Re: Spell Duels: The New Grappling?
I am going to wash my mouth out for that title (sorry, Joe!), but... Six pages to describe how this works? There seem to be a lot of die rolls to figure out what happens, too, and numbers to track and compare, all of which sounds like a scene slowing down. There's plenty I like about it (Galactic W...

Re: Is corruption meant to be permanent?
How about an option for "Cautious Casting"? It would take more time, or perhaps have a penalty, or both, but the cautious spellcaster can then add a bonus to the corruption roll (if one results), or maybe simply have a chance to avoid corruption altogether. I don't think casters should ha...

Yes, and the warrior at level 10 can cause an earthquake by striking the ground with his hammer and rolling a 14 on his class die. I mean, what else is there based on what a measly 7 can do in combat? He's a one-trick pony 'cept his trick gets better, unless we have crazee anime trick such as a swo...

Re: Level Cap
So who cares how powerful he is? What I'm trying to say is that he is so beyond the non-caster classes in terms of power and options that he can crack the dungeon single-handed (unless it's designed as wizard-proof) and the stabby-shooty-stunty warrior is a poor sidekick. I'm hoping that DCC will m...

Re: Level Cap
The Wizard is not going to cast crazy spells from a tavern to take out the titan and risk more corruption and spell burn. By 10th level he probably only casts spells once a year at most relying on the millions of gold pieces he's liberated from the local country side to live on. If the titan needs ...

Re: Mithril Armor
Why doesn't a normal iron sword cause more damage to the elf? Here's how you could houserule it - so you're attacking an elf and hit with a sword that does 1d8 damage. You roll 2d8, taking the highest die as the damage done. or better still: elves who take wounds from iron weapons roll on a lower d...
