Re: Goodman, please don't publish DDC RPG until after Novemb
Just to springboard off of this -- I'm looking at the "Beta Plus" rules sent to just a few of us and the changes are looking really solid to me. The majority of us are stuck trying to work with a system that has problems. It's not 'broken' enough that I'll discard it but I've had a hard t...

Re: Character Improvement Options
But there need to be rules for starting characters above 0 level. Not all campaigns will start at 0 level. Obviously not all campaigns will start at 0 Level - we played sessions at all levels, mostly 5th Level (because we are actually playtesting the damn game instead of wallowing in the funnel for...

Re: Character Improvement Options
Too many options is a terrible thing. I don't want players to keep having to refer back to the book to check which rules are being used and their specifics. You may as well just write your own house rules rather than cluttered up the rulebook with more rules.

Re: A blasphemous idea
the base classes would be 5 levels in length and then they would just END. At 6th level, you would choose a prestige class and continue adventuring from there with all of your old class abilities plus your new class abilities. I suggested something quite similar to this to Joseph back in March and ...

Re: Upcoming playtests of DCC RPG
Enjoyed immensely Joe's run of DCC RPG beta at the SoCal Minicon in Anaheim, California. The most notable tweek / updates are: 1) Thief's skills are now +/- modifiers instead of percentile. 2) Cleric's cumulative spell-casting penalty has been modified so each failure increases deity's displeasure ...

Adventurer Conqueror King System - check out the Kickstarter page. I'm a big fan of what the designers are trying to achieve. Still playtesting DCC though - having a blast with our 'fighters and thieves only' sessions.smathis wrote: BTW, what is ACKS?

Re: BETA: What has been learned?
Yes, the idea I like the most is that a wizard can burn a point of Luck to offset a corruption result. On a similar note, I've also been playing with a "cosmic balance" rule that every fumble on an attack roll restores one point of burned Luck. It can't take you past your starting max but...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
My gaming crew have now played nine sessions (0-4, and 4 at 5th Level) through some intense scenarios with the rules-as-written, and I'm finding that Corruption is the gamebreaker because: - the players of wizards are using less magic than they'd like to - because corruption is too likely, whereas t...

Re: Infernal Crucible of Sezrekan the Mad - Austin, Texas (6
The area affect vs single target is a good point. I think it's worth noting that Magic Missile isn't against just a single target in many results. What's the functional difference between a 20'x20' fireball that catches 6 enemies and rolling a "4" on a Magic Missile result that produces 1...

Re: BETA: What has been learned?
I don't want you to shove off. I'm just saying that the best place for discussion on various topics is in the thread on those same topics. We can't do much here until Joseph gives his say. I think the whole board's at an impasse at the moment apart from a few cool ideas. Until we know how the power...

Re: MDoA for other classes?
I love the rules for the Mighty Deeds of Arms, but I find myself wondering why the other classes shouldn't be allowed to use them? The MDoA encourages Warriors and Dwarves to be more creative in combat, but what happens when a cleric or a thief wants to shove an opponent through a door? (for exampl...

Re: Cleric questions
Personally, I think turned creatures should be hedged back a distance from the Cleric, creating a perimeter around the Cleric. The perimeter would be smaller or larger based on the roll, I'd think. This is creepy, as the creatures can then follow the Cleric at a distance, and other party members ar...

Re: Infernal Crucible of Sezrekan the Mad - Austin, Texas (6
And raises the question of why bother to learn Fireball at all? Unless you need a backup for Magic Missile. Fireball as it stands is a compromise between a dungeon spell and an outdoor artillery spell. I would differentiate it from Magic Missile by emphasizing the arc and area effect, having it as ...

I wish I had the fireball spell to look at :( Fireball Level = 3 Range = 100’ or more, exploding in a sphere of 20’ radius or more Duration = Instantaneous Casting time = 1 round Save = Reflex vs. spell check Manifestation: (1) a flaming ball that catapults into the target and explodes in a firebur...

That's not a bad list, IMO. As I've said, DCC seems almost there. It's close to being a home-run, IMO. So, so close. Having played three games now (two at 5th level, one at 3rd), this is how I feel about it too. I agree with your list of bullet points, there's stuff to iron out but it's not insurmo...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
I really think corruption chances should just be added to the spell charts and ignore "crits" of "fumbles" (that's what the chart is for already). Perhaps Enlarge has 0 chance for corruption but Giant Eye of Searching For Your Lost Possessions causes corruption on a 1-10. Excell...

Will there be time to sufficiently put the higher level game through it's paces before release?
