The Unchosen
Suppose you have more than one character each surive the zero level adventure, you'll maybe choose one each to continue with -what happens to the ones left behind ? Maybe they never adventure again and just go about their business until years later they take arms against a powerdrunk sorcerer and hi...

Re: Which iconic D&D spells shouldn't be included ?
My problem with Polymorph is players using it to farm creatures for XPs. Or Mighty Morphin' Mages turning into a Troll in combat. Maybe it should have serious side effects/greater chance of corruption or be a ritual. But I'd rather have a wizard have to turn into a crow to fly somewhere than have a ...

But the warrior will be able dropkick a titan on a MDoA of result of 11. By the time he gets near him, the wizard may had lauched magic missiles via a crystal ball from the comfort of the tavern, teleported over while invisible, and taken the Titan out. Well if he rolled adequately - hello Spellbur...

Which iconic D&D spells shouldn't be included ?
Are there are that you don't want to see in the Core Rules, maybe because they're module breakers, bogus options, overpowered, infinite loops etc ?

Re: Level Cap
I can't imagine party-based adventuring past Level 10 given the power of wizards. Yes they might be corrupted to hell but warriors are having to totally rely on magic items to attempt to keep up with them on the battlefield. Thieves have long ceased to be the best class for thievery.

Re: Percentage Thief Skills
Stuff no one could do with just an attribute check, that require an audacious thief using skullduggery, and things that will really, really get the thief in trouble if (when? :D ) he fails. The Thief can already use an ability check and burn his Luck (the Thieves version of MDoA) to attempt such au...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
That's where I feel like the different XP per class comes in. Level 5 halfling? Just not as powerful as a level 5 warrior. I don't want to change the halfling class (fundamentally, I mean -- there are some minor things I need to fix)...so how can I justify the halfling player being required to accu...

Which 10 other spells does the game need ?
I know there's a lot missing, but which other spells would you definitely want in the Core Rules - what's in your top ten and why ?

I feel like I'm missing something here. Help me out, man. I read your intial post again, and yes, I've only really responded to the 'why not try a defensive manouvre every round' and you meant more than that - I went off on a tangent ( because I just favour taking out the enemy without depleting th...

Re: 2 x 0 Lvl Sessions. Comments.
We played through an XRP module 'Legacy of Darkness' with four 5th Level wizards last night. The DM made us roll 1d5 to see how many Corruption rolls we start with. Then a straight d20 roll to see what type of Corruption. I rolled Corpulence and Demonic Taint (Goat Legs). One of the other guys rolle...

Not to win the battle by eliminating/disabling/disarming the opposition before they deal damage. Even more so when dealing with creatures with a variety of attacks or area attacks.Drew wrote:Um, again, the Defensive Manuever does full damage AND gives me an AC bonus. Alignment and Spell Choice
Should a wizard's alignment dictate some of the initial spell picks ? Part of me says no, Vance's wizards made do with the spells they could find, especially lesser wizards. On the other hand the magic section describes wizards as specialising in a type of magic. so Should a wizard's initial spell ...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills
Is there a difference between a pdf on the publisher's website or an appendix? Yes, I think so. In my experience what's in the core rules is the canon to us to houserule from. I don't want a designer's houserules for his own game in the core book, give me a clear statement of intent. I have no prob...

Re: Warrior Mighty Deed of Arms
Unless I have some other Mighty Deed in mind, why wouldn't I do this (or a similar Deed) every time I attacked? If there is no reason not to do them, no risk overcome, then they cease to be special and creative. The reason to do this is that always being defensive prolongs the fight thus giving you...

Re: Corruption and Spell Fumble
Spell Fumble is just one of the options on the Corruption chart - I think it gets it's own chart because it affects other people, things or an area rather than just the caster. Mostly Corruption is like a spell imploding on the caster, rather than with a fumble it explodes outwards. What complicates...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
I'm in favour of getting rid of spell level Remember that spell level does serve a purpose -- it puts spells into piles so that young wizards can't try the hardest spells right away. So you use an idea like jmucchiello's class dice for wizards as the numbers are already there on the chart. You can ...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
I favour condensing spells wherever possible. You say the 32 spells are 1st level - but how many of these cover the effects of higher level spells within their potential range ? - I've only seen the Magic Missile spell and that is hellish powerful at higher rolls. Surely a Charm Person spell encomp...

Re: Elves, Wizards, Balance, Oh My!
This is a bit of a cross post, but if every class get a "Class Die," (ala the Warrior's current MDoA die) we could scale the wizard's so that it is a larger compared to the elf's. So while the elf is proficient at a lot, the wizard is the one who can get truly crazy results with the spell...

Re: Level 10+
I don't envision any pcs surviving to level 10 very often. If they do, I think it would be time for the pc and player to separate, allowing the player to become a renowned NPC in the area, probably holding a keep, castle or tower. At that level, you have the power to send someone else into the dung...

Re: Monsters
When the event occurs that you need a number, drop some dice. 100% agree. Back when I played Holmes D&D the DM had to roll DEX stats for monsters for initiative. We didn't record them + it worked fine as another way to give the goblins some variety - one could be a fast hit&run type, anothe...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills
Part of the point of my No Skills thread is involved here. I'd prefer the class die solution and get rid of the table if possible. Thieves should just be good at ability checks involving actions conducive to crime. PERIOD. The Judge then can determine if sneaking past a guard or making a disguise o...

Re: Armor
But it might be in a "variant rules" section. NOOOooo. Variant rules in the core book is a bad idea - let people houserule it themselves if they want but maintain the core as definitive. I think this rule is the only one that doesn't boost the dwarf over the warrior or involve more calcul...
