Re: Designer's Blog #1: What It Is, And What It Isn't

Tavis Allison, one of the early DCC RPG playtesters, actually tried this. He recently ran Castle Zagyg, a C&C adventure, using DCC RPG rules. It went well. I expect there will be more such tests, as well. See the link below for his results: http://muleabides.wordpress.com/2010/12/13/glorious-sw...

Wow ... that takes me back. I used to have a ton of those well-worn dice, but I gave them all away to a friend's daughter who was fascinated with my pretty dice.

Re: Elf ... or is it?

Hmm, sounds like everybody likes the idea of alternate spell names. OK. Noted. :) I'll dig out my old notes from before I tossed that idea... Absolutely! While you're absolutely correct in that the "standard" spell names allow for a greater degree of cross-game understanding, offering the...

Re: Reading Appendix N

I read many of those books back in "the day" but have discovered that most of my current gaming group hasn't read any of the real classic swords & sorcery tales. I suspect that's why newer games aren't "old school", because many of the designers and players are basing their ...

Re: Reading Appendix N

Has anyone else made a concerted effort to read the entirety of Appendix N? I got my MA in English specializing in speculative fiction, and I spent a lot of time concentrating on the pulp fantasy / sword and sorcery era, so I've read at least something by most all of the Appendix N authors, if not ...

Re: Upcoming playtests of DCC RPG

There will definitely be a public playtest edition. At this point the playtests are deliberate and focused on specific aspects of the rules that need examination. For example, the crit rules have changed quite a bit over the last couple months. But once the "baseline" is set, many people ...

It does not utilize miniatures or a grid-based combat system. *Weeps openly* ... Thank you! THANK YOU!!! OH YEA VERILY, THE GAMING GODS HAVE ANSWERED MY PRAYERS! It is grounded in the fundamentals of Appendix N. One of the reasons I've already preordered. It is a proud descendant of a long traditio...

Re: Designer's Blog #1: What It Is, And What It Isn't

If ever a movement will need the 21st century equivalent of Dragon Magazine, this will! Castles & Crusades has the Crusaders magazine. Joseph, if you folks haven't been thinking about it, you should be. Perhaps start thinking about a bi-annual or quarterly magazine? There's no reason why "...

Re: Designer's Blog #1: What It Is, And What It Isn't

After a few years, the "point of entry" is lost in "rule book bloat" -- new players feel overwhelmed by having so many options and so much complexity to grasp before they're on par with the existing players. Yes! This is exactly the problem with modern RPG systems! I enthusiasti...

Re: Designer's Blog #1: What It Is, And What It Isn't

Couldn't resist preordering. I have always enjoyed reading the DCC modules, their premises, but I just don't enjoy running 3e, 3.5e, or 4e, and I'm not fond of how these systems play at the table. I *did* enjoy the modules published for C&C, as I preferred that system to those just mentioned, an...
