so! in a previous campaign, i really wanted to do something with language and the language barrier...but the game's mechanics on this are pretty unfriendly to that sort of thing. spend a skillpoint or two and you know a new language...assuming you ever want to bother learning one, since characters r...

mmm....just going over the mechs in the main book and i was struck with something...odd. the Janzeter Mk 2 Mobile Cannon has zeppelins. i mean, i knew that before, but it's only just now struck me. zeppelins. powered flight... do any of the DragonMech books that've come out since the main book go in...

House rules for the masses!
hey folks! sorry i've been gone for so long, but it's been a busy busy winter. anyways, i'm getting ready to kick off a Dragonmech campaign this weekend and i was wondering what sort of snazzy house rules are floating around out there. *grin* this is basically a "i'll show you mine if you show ...

y'know, i really should've said this a long time ago, but my computer pooped out not long after i started this thread and i've been a long time in getting back here. that said... man, thanks a lot guys. *grin* that's exactly the kind of information i was looking for. i had a feeling it was one of th...

Getting published
For over a year now I've been working on a number of different projects, the majority of which are campaign settings or one-shot modules, and I think I've reached a point where I'm ready to start looking into trying to get some of it published. I was hoping maybe some of the other authors around her...

i was at the pool the other day and, god knows why, this image popped into my head: Sigil...city at the center of the planes...once the single most vibrant place in all creation (and beyond)...now a desolate waste. The vast ring hangs silently above the Grey Wastes, broken and lifeless. The Lady of ...

the willpower for monks/etc i can dig, but...nonlethal damage counts up from zero, remember? you'd have to set the number at Max HP + 10, rather than at a total of -10. see? your idea for reducing the damage to non-lethal attacks to 1 pt per strike (plus applicable Str modifiers) is alright, but i d...

know what else would be nice? a Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick game. i don't mean something that necessarily follows the movies, but the setting from that series is incredible and there's a fair amount of setting material out there now between the anime, the movies, and the video game. *shrug* ju...

i've got one for you... i've been giving a lot of thought to using steam-powered mechs in an arid environment like a desert or wasteland, and i've come up with an idea i've got no stats for, but i'd be interested in hearing some suggestions or just your opinions. i'm thinking that there's no reason ...

i've been thinking about it a lot, and, while i haven't had an opportunity to test it yet, i really, really like your adaptation away from Con damage. i was leery of creating a new stat for magic users, but, in retrospect, i'm not sure why. after all, i was already changing the whole way they do bus...

Grimbones, that's an absolutely groovy system you've got there. my group uses a much simpler Crit Fail setup that follows the same general procedure as Crit Successes: after a 1 is rolled the player rolls an unmodified d20. the lower the result of this roll, the worse the crit fail was. as a general...

actually, while i don't have any nice PDF versions, i like to include the AC chain on the back of most of my character sheets and encourage the PCs to do the same. most of 'em do, which is nice. it can help to explain why things work the way they do sometimes. regarding the 'soft' armor discussion.....

yeah, in play we found the Con damage to be a pretty hefty price, but the percentage chance of breaking a bone on most hits is pretty small. here's a modified version of the Bludgeoning rules we started using a few months ago. (i just copy/pasted the ones above from when i typed 'em up a long while ...

Expanded Damage Rules
I've just recently finished re-reading what is, in my mind at least, one of the greatest fantasy epics ever written: David Eddings' Elenium and the Tamuli . If you haven't read them yet you really, really need to. If those six books don't give you a thousand and one ideas for GMs and PCs alike then ...

ah, reese, i'm already way ahead of you. sort of. Expanded Weapon/Damage rules go up in a few minutes. and yeah, you're right. i don't use the rules either. i like them, but they're way too cumbersome. the only thing that i do use is the AC Chain, but that's more just a tool to help with descriptive...

Expanded AC Rules
I've always had a problem with Armor Class. I don't deny that it's a good mechanic to use for figuring combat results and measuring the varying protection that can be provided by different types of armor...but it's still silly. I understand perfectly why variant rules for different types of damage a...

*grin* yeah, i was referring more to the format rather than the information. it's not a bad looking idea though, and you're right in thinking that the biggest problem in play has been trying to keep real Con damage separate from spellcasting Con damage...and it created some headaches regarding the c...

right. sorry. i was at work, and some work actually came along needing to be done. anyways... Pros (cont.) 8. the vicious magic system requires mages to have a high spellcraft and concentration score, and requires divine casters to actually study the religion they claim to be a part of. now, i gener...

mmm...well, what do you mean exactly? here's my breakdown of the pros and cons of using the system: Pro: 1. utilization of metamagic feats without knowledge of the feats themselves, also, (and this is admittedly more useful to preparation based casters) the ability to apply metamagic feats to an alr...
