Just launched and fully-funed — Wayward Studios’ From Out of Gnollwhere is a Dungeon Crawl Classics-compatible adventure for four to six 2nd level characters. The first of a three-part arc, book one invites the characters to investigate horrifying and militaristic assaults from the normally chaotic and disjointed gnolls of the wilds beyond the placid town of Rurayne’s Crossing.
Pausing in your travels at a comfortable-looking farm village-cum-trading post which is celebrating its annual harvest festival, your group kicks its heels up at the local inn, the Haystack. Just as you settle in to enjoy your fine roast beast and a second round of house ale, a young couple, covered in blood, staggers into the common room. All talk and sound of merriment ceases, as the couple weaves their ghastly tale: newlyweds, the couple were on their way to Rurayne’s Crossing where an uncle was going to set them up on his farm, from their hometown far in the north. They’d stopped off in the tiny trading village of Turley Hollow, a day or so’s brisk ride from the Crossing, to rest for the evening, only to find it under attack by gnolls! The two had had to steal the horse from a cart to escape–as the family who’d been loading it was savaged by the ravening beasts.
In short order, the group is either convinced or hired to investigate these attacks. Gnolls are known to be brutishly violent and hating of men, but have never been known to attack in such numbers or precision. This investigation will lead them on a path from the tranquil village of Rurayne’s Crossing to the bloody, desecrated trading post of Turley Hollow and finally into the great, darkening wood known as the Auld and the cryptic, long-forgotten tomb of a Chaos Lord! And perhaps a few (un)pleasant surprises along the way!
