Blind Visionary Publications and Trevor Stamper are back with another installment of Tales From the Smoking Wyrm, the ninth in the series! The fully-funded third party kickstarter is for Tales from the Smoking Wyrm, a fanzine inspired not just by the roleplaying game Dungeon Crawl Classics, but also by the wondrous fanzines of the past 40 years! While we focus on DCC, the material produced can be easily translated into any Old School Renaissance (OSR) system, or even 5th edition D&D—something several of our reviewers have noticed as well (check out the reviews further down)!
This Kickstarter isn’t just for issue 9 of Tales From the Smoking Wyrm, but also fund volume two number one in the Smoking Wyrm Monographs series.
What’s Inside TSW #9?
Our ninth issue contains eight features, usable by both players and judges:
- New Patron: Krampus—The Horned Ooser himself as patron for lawfully righteous wizards and elves looking to keep people in line, even if they need the devil to do it! Krampus comes with a full write-up, including a new feature we are adding to all our patrons: a rumors table, to help introduce this patron into game play. Everything you expect to see in a full write-up is present, plus rules for the waxing and waning of Krampus’ influence over the seasons, and ways in which characters can become Get of Krampus!
- Cullpepper’s Herbal—This installment of Cullpepper’s Herbal focuses on the herbs that are most thought of in the holiday season: Holly, Mistletoe, and Ivy.
- Krampus missions—Sure, you signed up to help the old Bartl curb the wicked, but now he goes and assigns you actual missions? Included in this article are 7 missions that adherents of Krampus can be assigned in return for their invoking his name! These missions are suitable for inserting into game play pretty much anywhere, and are sure to challenge those who have pledged a deal with Klaubauf himself.
- Mari Lwyd—An old Welsh tradition come to life! In this article, the judge can develop a Mari Lwyd that will challenge characters in truly unique ways.
- Weapons of Krampus—Need to know what the difference between a single stick and a birch stick bundle is? Or how Krampus makes that basket hold so many of the wicked? Read on for all the twisted details of the weapons Krampus and his minions employ!
- Yeti—Abominable snowmen, or allies of the Migo? In this article we investigate the Yeti as myth and legend. Further, we explore the Lovecraftian connection with this creature and the Migo, and present a Yeti that bridges all the above, and is refreshingly new and dangerous!
- Onward Retainer, starring the Legion—The ninth installment of our adventuring comic in an old school style, brought to you by Joel Phillips!
- Wyrm Words—A word puzzle of all the Gygaxian words in the ninth issue—this way, a definition is never in doubt! Also included are the answers to the Issue #8’s Wyrm Words.
