Every day the release of Original Adventures Reincarnated #3: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks gets a little closer. We’re excited about it, and we can tell you are, too. We’ve already posted the general announcement, the first designer’s diary, the second designer’s diary, and now…let’s talk about some handouts.
One of the most popular aspects of the original version of S3: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks was the book of handouts. These were a collection of illustrations designed to show to the players at certain points during the adventure to help create a visual world for the game. They were new and exciting, letting the players feel like they were more involved with the events.
We intend to keep that level of excitement with the new OAR #3 edition of the book. All handouts from the original printing will included in the new version—plus there will be MORE!
If you go back to the original release of Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, there were 64 handouts to share with your players.
The 5E edition in the back half of OAR #3 has a total of 81—all the originals plus 17 brand new illustrations to share with your players. But words are only a part of the story. What would be great is to see some of those new illustrations right here and right now.

Bonus Trivia: Did you know the 1st printing of S3 had different handout art than subsequent printings?
The 1st printing of Barrier Peaks had the TSR “standing wizard” logo on both the front cover and the handout book. Inside that book, illustrations 41 and 46 were by Jeff Dee and Diesel (respecitvely).
The 2nd and subsequent printings had the TSR “wizard head” logo in place of the “standing wizard”, and illustrations 41 and 45 were re-done by Erol Otus. “Did you say 45? Didn’t you mean to say 46?” No we actually mean number 45, because the handouts were also renumbered with the later printings, as well!
