Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
The zero-level PC party generator is a great tool, once I've used in the past to great effect. However, I was wondering if anyone has the acumen and/or time to create a similar tool that allows for higher level PC to be whipped up at the press of a button?
And if you do, can you do it by Wednesday?

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
You are a funny man Michael.
Brainstorm with me, what features would higher level characters need? Off the top of my head:
Increasing hit points
Languages
Changing attack bonuses, crit die, crit tables, crit range, action dice and saves
Clerics weapons would need to reflect their gods (random gods?)
Thief powers going up based on alignment (so folks would likely want to select alignment during creation?)
Warrior luck weapon
Warrior initiative change
Warrior might deed die
Wizards accumulating spells (random would be simple, but I'm guessing players would want some input?)
Wizard patrons and spells? (That would be a bit tricky)
Extra gold and equipment
Am I missing anything?
And why Wednesday?

Both random and input options would be nice. Random for quick wacky generation of an npc, input for thematic NPCs or for quick PCs.tovokas wrote: Wizards accumulating spells (random would be simple, but I'm guessing players would want some input?)

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Yeah, I think this would be fantastic but nearly impossible to program. On the other hand, I don't need it by Wednesday, but maybe a day or two before June 16th. That should take some of the pressure off of whoever can program this.

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
I think it would have to take into account that a Wizard dealt w/ corruption at some point or another. Last week by the end of just 4 hours of play the 1st level Wiz I was playing had gained 2X sized hands and chalky white eyes w/ no pupils.

How many pizzas and donuts have to be sent your way to make this happen, tovokas?

The last thing I need is more pizza and donuts... ummm.... donuts... but picking up an adventure (or participating in the Crawler's Companion Kickstarter that is about to go live) would be just as delicious.RAD Colin wrote:How many pizzas and donuts have to be sent your way to make this happen, tovokas?

And I am putting something together. I think I'll approach this in two parts. Interactivity is the great time sink on these sorts of things, so I think I'll do a generally random version first, and refine things with customization somewhere down the road.

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Because I am a lazy, lazy man. One that's going to be running two sessions of DCC RPG at NTRPGCon this coming weekend and after all the prep work I've already done, having an application that creates pre-gens of level 3 and 4 would be a godsend!tovokas wrote: And why Wednesday?
It's ok, though. I've accepted that I'm going to have to do it the old-fashioned way, but a random PC generator (not a character builder) would definitely make my life easier.

Thanks, Jon! I keep my fingers crossed, but if you don't have something hodge-podged together by Tuesday, I'll have to bite the bullet and do it the long way. Keep us posted!

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Y'know, even if we can't get a program that makes random high-level characters, maybe we could start a thread where folks could post a few that they have made and share.
These could be used as NPCs or as pre-gen characters.

I'd love this too. I'm usually finishing up making my pregens as the players are arriving at the table. :/

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Michael... you'd better start making some more characters.
I've actually made much more progress than I thought I could in the time I've had available. If I have free time tomorrow afternoon, I'll see if I can crank things up enough for you to have something usable by the early evening. It's threadbare at this point, but I think it could still be a real timesaver even in a raw state.

No problem, Jon. I really didn't expect any miracles and resolved myself to do it by hand. Don't knock yourself out, but it's obvious from the feedback that this thread has gotten that a high-level PC generator is a desired application.
Thanks for your hard work!

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Michael, this is rough stuff, with a temporary launch page... I'm sure there are errors, and it only figures up the stats for 1 chosen weapon, and the weapon a character gets from their occupation. The spells are completely random.michaelcurtis wrote:No problem, Jon. I really didn't expect any miracles and resolved myself to do it by hand. There is much, much polishing to be done, but it still might help in a pinch even in its developmental state:

I'm not sure I'll have much time in the next couple days to start polishing, but I think eventually it will be really cool.
Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Wow that is awesome already and it's only a rough version. I was reluctant to even consider a higher level test of the system but I would jump right in with this.
Going to see if I can convince my players to try the high level game out first before we start a low level campaign.

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Made some updates to fix some obvious bugs, and improved the layout of the weapons and thief skills lines. Added the option of giving a bonus to the main weapon.
Baby steps.

Thanks Raven!
The launch page has now been updated. I'm looking forward to adding lots of goodness to this thing in the future.

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Useful, hell. It's a mini-game all to itself! My favourite character so far is the Level 1 Wizard and former Potato Farmer with STR 17 who (with his +1 Luck bonus to melee damage) swings his starting Pitchfork to cause more damage than any of the Level 1 Warriors I created!tovokas wrote:Thanks for the kind words Scribble. Question: Warriors add their Deed Die to damage, right? Should that be shown on the PDF character sheet? Also, I think I saw a problem where the damage die for the 2-handed sword wasn't appearing.
