DCC Quick Start Rules 2017 : Question on table 4-1

Post by xKRIMxGLUEx »

Hi everyone,

I'm new to DCC and super stoked to have the free rpg quick start rules of this year, and as I'm planning on running the funnel scenario soon I came across an issue at page 19 on the table 4-1 : Attack Roll Modifiers right here :

I've browsed the forum search engine for this particular table but couldn't find anything, sorry if it's a redundant post, but can anyone please explain me what -1d or +1d would mean ? Is this a typo ?

Thanks a lot guys, can't wait to get into it.

Karim.

DCC runs things on a sliding dice scale.

d3 -> d4 -> d5 -> d6 -> d7 -> d8 -> d10 -> d12 -> d14 -> d16 -> d20

The +/- dice type means you move along that scale. For example, suppose a weapon typically does a d8 damage. In that case a +1d would shift up from d8 to d10 while a -1d would shift down from d8 to d7.

Does that help?

just to make it clear though, this particular table is modifying the attack die and not the damage die.

Thanks a lot Marcus, that makes quite a difference in this context.

I suppose that in most cases the starting die would be the D20 ? Except for second attack, two-weapon fighting, etc. if I'm correct, right ?

Most times, yes. In DCC stat blocks, the action die is specified.
