Dungeon Crawl Classics #44: Dreaming Caverns of the Duergar

Post by The_Livewire »

Just a question.

Is this going to use Psionic Duergar or the plain version.

The plain version (although I think you'll find that one or two are anything but "plain" in this adventure!).

Psionics aren't really my forte, so I didn't think I'd be doing fans of psionics - who truly like them and are well-versed in their use - any favors by including them in the module. So psionics - like batteries - are "not included" in the Dreaming Caverns.

Sorry to disappoint any psionic enthusiasts out there.

I'm a psionic enthusiast, so I guess it's my responsibility to be offended.

You and me too :-P

Seriously, I'll have to Psi it up, still looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll have Dreamscarred Press' races of the mind on them before I run it.

Since the majority of the duergar in this module are fairly low-level, coverting them to psionic duergar should be pretty simple. In fact, the majority of the work will be simply swapping out spell-like abilties for psi-like abilities.

So I see this adventure is being offered in stores--when will the PDF version be ready for RPGNOW?

I have it in my hands. After a good night's sleep I'll take a gander at running it through psionic reformation :-)

Ok I had a death in the family, so I've not had time to stat things out. A couple notes so far.

If you replace the Duergar Warrior's toughness feat with psionic body they'll lose 1 HP, but the feat makes more sense than toughness from a "I'm planning to live to 3rd level" POV

By using the psionic Duegar you can give the cleric psionic focus. This means little, exept that he can blow the focus to take 15 on a concentration check. Handy if the party is packing tanglefoot bags or a grappler.

I'll stat out what the ftr 3 would look like as a Psychic Warrior 3 later.
