Why does the entry for Greed Grubs have (3) after it. Does that mean 3 of them are CR 2?

If you're referring to the entry on p. 13, it means there are three of them in that encounter. The same format is used for the stoneghosts on pp. 5 & 9. It's just there for ready reference for the DM. Hope that clarifies things!

Thank you. The "waves" of greed grubs at the end made me wonder about this entry, but what you said makes perfect sense.
