Sci-fi inspirations for a MA game

Post by JonHook »

I'm already thinking about how to use a Logan's Run type of society in one of the city areas of the ship. And after recently seeing Wall-E, I have some ideas for a refuse level too.

Is there somewhere to get the plankton and sea greens from?

Nice!

That would be a great robot encounter. That's one of the encounters I'm thinking of with a twist.

Having recently read all three of the Logan's novels, I was thinking the EXACT same thing myself....

I have a copy of the Logan's Run trilogy. I read the first one years ago but never got around to the other two. How does the quality compare to the first one?

Out of curiosity, have any of you ever seen the old series from the seventies called The Starlost? It was a Canadian Sci-fi show set on a generation ship where (stop me if you've heard this before) the crew was wiped out in an unspecified disaster and a group of primitive humans have to try and save the ship before it plows into a sun.

Bad effects, OK to bad scripts, and well OK to bad acting. If you're a fan of the genre I suggest at least one watching, because when I see the Warden I picture parts of The Ark.

I have not seen The Starlost, sounds interesting. I'm going to find some vintage sci-fi books and look for some inspiration in there too.

Man, I was just a BIT too young (by, say, 5 years) to be able to watch--and understand, at least as much as those nonsense plots were understandable--those types of sci-fi shows.

There was a recent Community episode where the school becomes a 70's retro-futuristic "utopian dystopia" with togas and rainbow space-makeup and MeowMeowBeenz. I was both amused by and impressed with how succinctly they were able to sum up 70's sci-fi.

Oh BTW I'm OttawaTom. I'm waiting for my account activation email. I met finarvyn at Gary Con this year and complimented him on his MA shirt. These are a few screen shots from The Starlost.

Pandorum would be perfect.

Essentially you have a colony ship leaving earth, then it jumps forward and one of the crew wakes from cryo and the ship's systems are down.

Yup John Colicos pre-BSG I think, alongside Barry "Space: 1999" Morse and later on in the series Walter "Chekov" Koenig had a returning role as an alien by the name of Oro.

The rest are all out of work actors from Toronto, and Keir Dulea. :)
