Rurik finds it an easy go... just getting out laterally from the floor and maybe then down a foot or three, putting him something like sternum to floor level.

The bigger issue might be fatigue if it's a long, long way down...

Ray will grab the other end of the rope and help anchor it for Rurik. 6 STR check...

Rockla is going to see if she can find a path to boulder down through the craggy rocks and fissures. 16 INT check.

Rurik is going to proceed down a bit more. He wants to see if there is an opening under the floor that is sticking out into the chasm. He is hoping he doesn't have to climb forever.

Can you clarify this a bit for me...?

I'm not sure what "to boulder down" means.

And I'm not clear what or how Ray is anchoring the rope? To himself?

Rurik climbs down until he's completely below the ledge of the metal floor section.

Beneath is that side of the chimney, with the slimmest of gaps between the floor section and the natural rock, averaging about an inch in height. It'd make a great anchor point for a piton -- assuming that the floor didn't rotate again and dislodge it!

My apologies. Ray would like to hold onto the rope as opposed to wrapping it around himself, so that there is more length.

Rockla is considering climbing down but wants visually scout out a possible route first before she attempts it. Being a exiled mushroom farmer, she has gone to great lengths to acquire those rare and hard to reach shrooms.

So Ray is holding the rope -- no need for a Strength check unless something happens.

Rockla can only see a 'path' part way out and down, given the overall depth, but what she sees looks easily climbable. {And I appreciate the extra bit of character development.]

Lyle takes the rope as well and braces himself, then calls down to Rurik:

Lyle: "How's it look down thar? Can we make it down, y'think?"

Rurik "It seems climbable but it is going to be exhausting work. I see no other opening yet."

Is is possible to loop the rope over points in the wall as long as the outcroppings were not sharp?

The rock walls look like they've been washed down with acid, making them not smooth, but sort of 'flow-y' if that makes any sense...

I don't think anyone's occupation specifically covers this, but rainwater seeping into porous rock can take quite a long time to pass through... months, easily. If the rock is the right sort of composition, the water can take on an acidic quality, and that seems to be what's happened here. It's like hundreds of years of mild acid has flowed over the rock face here, etching away at anything sharp or loose and leaving a very 'wrinkled' sort of surface. Imagine the paper surface layer of a sheet of cardboard torn away; there's lots of stray bits and a kind of corrugated substrate underneath now exposed.

With some examination, sites can be found where there's a natural 'loop' that's formed in the rock, like a lateral hole formed in one of the corrugated vertical lines. You could feed the rope through it in any number of ways to make an anchor, if you liked.

Rockla, humming quietly to herself, is completely lost in the investigation of the rock wall. She has this incredible ability to, when invested in something, completely disconnect from everything else, no matter how dire, and focus fully on her task. She is doing that now. She is going to try climbing down. She wants to get to the bottom of this.

Ray will continue to hold the rope. He is pretty overwhelmed and is throwing himself at anything that doesn't require a leadership skill. He will participate but is waiting for someone to tell him what to do. Someone that will save him. Also, Ray is wondering where this creature came from when it was on this side of the wall.

Since it's not going to change anything or influence anyone's choices hereafter, I can tell you...

The thing could levitate. Had you not killed the thing, it would have grabbed as many of you as it could do, and then floated down to the bottom of the shaft where is lairs... Had it at least lived until the wall rotated again, it would maybe have needed to escape you attacking it, and floated down away from you, providing the opportunity to make a short jump down to it's massive, squishy form, and then journey down that way... perhaps prodding it a bit along the way to keep it 'fleeing'...

Damn! I don't know if we got lucky or unlucky.

With focus and well earned confidence(from her Dwarven mushroom farmer days), Rockla rolled a 9 STR to climb down the rock wall...

Emboldened by the two dwarves, Lyle prepares to climb down as well

Lyle: "Well, that rope won't get all th'way din to th'floor anyhow, so here goes nothin'..."
STR(-1)=7

Okay, so we have some folks climbing down....

Is anybody not climbing down?

...Of those climbing, are they free-climbing, or are they tied into pairs of climbers, etc?

And it won't be a STR check we make, but keep those dice warm...

Rockla, lost in her focus would not think to tie off with someone else.

Ray would love to buddy system with someone, if able.

If Rurik isn't too far down and doesn't object, Lyle will try to tie himself somewhere near the middle of the rope and suggest Ray tie on the end.

OOC: Sorry for delay! Been a busy weekend!++

IC: Rodney sat shaking with dread as the others began clambering down the hideous drop!!!
Get a Grip man! He told himself, your a duStutterinslay!
Making sure all his equipment was cinched up tight he edged towards where the others were making their way down. And very gingerly awaited his turn to go down the route the brave dwarves had scouted out...

OOC: Yeah don't (further) split the party. Sir (Chicken Little) Rodney will bravely bring up the rearguard LOL

Alright, that is everyone climbing in some fashion or other...

So:

For each character, make a Stamina Check vs. a DC 5. Your Stamina modifier of course modifies your rolled result.

If you have any sort of precaution set up, such as tied to a partner, the DC drops to 4. If you are tied to two partners, then the DC is 3!

If you fail, that character has fallen!

Now let's see them results...

Wilbure: 6 +1 = 7

 Lyle's STA (-1)=2!
I miss that crappy 7 STR roll now, haha...
He would've tied onto the rope if possible, but that'll probably end poorly considering...I imagined he would've tied onto the one rope Rurik is on, along with Ray and whomever else is doing that.
Can I burn 1 Luck for a 3?

Rockla rolled an 18. She continues to hum a Dwarven tune as she climbs.

Ray rolled an 17.
