Red Robert: "All right! This looks interesting AND valuable!"

OOC: Red Robert examines the golden chainmail, necklace, and ring wearing skeleton. Is the chainmail intact? What does the medallion look like? The ring?

Wow. I just realized that there is an illustration of the shadow beast and its pedestal in the back of the DCC RPG core rule book.

OOC: I never noticed that, very cool. Interestingly, that illustration is not in the module itself!

As for the examination of the items, please give me an INT check.

Jester Jenkins and Joseph stare at each other.
"We're . . . we're . . . " stutters Jenkins.
"Alive . . ." Joseph whispers. The two men hug each other with joy.

The skeleton wearing the chainmail, ring, medallion necklace is clad like a priest, although no priest of any god you're familiar with.

The fine golden chainmail is indeed intact; not only is it a thing of absolute craftsmanship and beauty, it feels lighter than you'd imagine chainmail to be (Check Penalty is only -4 rather than -5).

The ring is made of woven yellow and white gold, and has the design of the sun on one side.

You note that the polished brass medallion on the golden chain is about the same size as the large polished bronze disk inlaid on the north wall.

Marvin and Xim soon tire of waiting for the dusky wings of death to carry them away, and shout up tentatively, "Hey, are you folks alive? Could we, you know, get some help up?"

As Jester Jenkins rifles through Ragged Rob's pockets (and taking his thieves' tools and sling + stones!), Joseph goes to the edge of the pit.
"Ah-yup. How're we gonna get you fellas outta there?"

[OOC: I noticed that Joseph's trade good was a herding dog. Is the dog with us?]

OOC: Hmmm, I have an idea that may get us killed. Honest John (who is lawful!) is going to put on all the items and insert the medallion into the matching wall socket. I am reminded of an early episode of Battlestar Galactica where Adama did something similar on an Egypt themed planet.

Honest John: "I'm going to try something. I'm going to dress in this guy's clothes and see what happens when I put this medallion in that matching slot on the wall. Hopefully, if there are any traps this armor and ring will protect me. If anyone objects tell me now. Otherwise stand back."

Jester Jenkins and Joseph back away aggressively, going so far as to stand back in the hallway.
"Go for it, man!" yells Jenkins.

Honest John touches the medallion to the bronze disk on the north wall.

Instantly, Honest John, Red Robert, Marvin and Xim vanish from the room.

Jester Jenkins and Joseph remain in the hallway, mouths agape.

Honest John, Red Robert, Marvin and Xim feel a dizzying rush of air and find themselves standing in a totally different chamber than the one (or the pit) they were just in.

This room is about 30' x 30' and illuminated by a superbly wrought spear that pulses with light, laying in the center of the floor. Two closed chests also sit on the floor, and a polished bronze circle similar to the one in the previous room is on the southern wall.

Marvin look suspiciously around him. "Wait, how am I not in a pit? This is highly unlikely." He regards the odd arrangement of things in the center of the room. "Well, this is a fine how-do-you-do. Luckily, I have some experience with chests of finery - the lockbox I keep at the office always jams, and I've developed the knack of opening it. I'll just give it a try, shall I? I'd hate to think we walked all the way to a grim dungeon and walked away without a few doubloons in our pockets." Xim frowns, trying to casually hide the wet spot on the front of his pants. " Um, I dunno if that is such a good idea. There were a lot more of us this a few hours ago; don't go messing about with the chests of your betters, I always say." Something occurs to him. "Hey, what is this is a trap of some kind? Like, there is poison gas that comes out of one chest, and a different kind of poison gas comes out of the the other, and the two only cancel each other out if you open them up at the same time?" He pouts in frustration. "This is like a hidden superstition - how are we supposed to know what to do?"

Honest John: "Your words make a lot of sense, Xim. I propose a plan: I'll stand near this disk with the amulet. One of you grab the spear. If there's a trap I'll press the medallion to the disk and take us out of here. Otherwise we'll move on to the chests, same plan. What say you all?"

Xim nods. "Agreed!" The plucky fellow goes and hovers above the spear, ready to grab it at a signal from Honest John.

"So . . . should we keep looking for the dog?" Jester Jenkins wonders. Joseph just glares at him. The fool scratches his head.
"Perhaps we should go home?"

That's a very good guess, given that Xim is hovering above it, ready to grab it... but is waiting for some kind of signal from Honest John. :-)

So...?
