No idea why I never typed it into an inventory, but - Tommy throws the throwing star he grabbed from Lala's body a couple encounters ago. To hit: 18. 4 damage.

(ooc: I think GB is hinting at using the rope/grappling hooks to snag one or more robes?)

(Ooc: I considered that but won't they just trail through the fire and alcohol on the way back?
Edit: do we try and grapple a beam and swing across?)

FWIW, doing that would be an attack roll vs. the beam (AC 10). I'll roll a die for damage (probably a d10, I'm thinking), because the more 'damage' done, the stronger the hold of the hook in the beam.

___ROUND TWO___

Flameo Hotman's Init: 14.

What's yours?

Init: 6+1=7.
Zeppo swings the grappling hook at the beam and if it catches will fling himself across over the flames. To hit: 9, I'm going to burn a point of luck to make it 10.
Sanitor counts his life as cheap. He rises to his feet, wreathed in flames, and shouts: "I cannot be slain by your pitiful fire! I am the Devil King of the Unmentionable Name! I challenge you to single combat!" Followed by a string of insults and expletives. Then, if the flames haven't killed him, he charges at Flaming Moe with his battleaxe: 14+1=15, willing to burn luck if necessary. Damage: 2+1=3

Initiative roll: 17. Maybe I was reading too much into it, but I thought we were getting the hint that the robes are fire proof?

I don't think there's much of anything to suggest they are fire proof, per se. The 'moment' has been lengthy in real-time, but basically the guy dropped a torch and the surface of the alcohol caught fire. Waaaay too soon for anything else to be ignited, unless it was already soaked in alcohol or some other propellant. The robes are hung on pegs, and high enough that they don't touch the liquid. The flames might get to them in time, but as of these few seconds, nope.

Not to spill too many beans, but getting a big robe that's dry and using it to smother existing flames on someone, ain't a half-bad idea...

You beat Moe to the punch, so what's Tommy up to? 8)

Sanitor should roll a roll-under Personality check for me. Let me know how much under or over his Per he gets.

Tommy takes the initiative to charge the maniac in flames and slash at him with his long sword. He rolls 15 to hit (I think misses by two? I'll burn the luck if necessary) 7 to damage.

Round 2 init(+2)=16
Brun: "Kylie! Get out of the fire!" He flings his last shuriken at "Flaming Moe" and tries to interpose himself between him and her, as Gunnar would've done... att=9, dmg=4
With another slingstone already hurtling toward her assailant, she looks for the door and moves toward it Kylessa: att(IKIDYOUNOTNAT20!!!+2)=22, crit(+1)=4, dmg=2

ooc Swinging from the rafters!? I wish I'd thought of that!
For the record, I'm using the D&D Dice Roller https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm and it has blessed me with more 20s than my dice ever have!

Definitely the intent. Maybe I am misreading the situation but I assumed someone would have to swing over and get it and potentially come back to put him out?

Sanitor rolls a 4, so 10 under his personality!

Same place I'm rolling. I was nearly ready to roll my own when I was rolling all those single digit results. That site is super useful when rolling up neighborhoods for Ur Hadad (roll all the dice twice for each neighborhood).

Tommy can save his Luck points...

Sanitor's oratory completely draws the attention of the mook, leaving him distracted in regards to the attacks. Clearly something in your speech struck a nerve...

The attacks take him to 1 hp, and the crit knocks him prone*...

Zeppo's grappling hook ka-chunks into the beam midway across the room, and he swings... Landing by a pair of intact robes.

Now...

___ROUND THREE___

His Init is: 5!

Let's just say someone gets higher than that and can manage to subdue a prone target.

The robe is gotten to the hall one way or another and the flames on Sanitor smothered. This takes a little bit of time, in which Sanitor would be subject to a bit of damage**, but there's no pressure of an assailant, and enough allies to assist, so the damage is avoided.

Take 2 XP everyone. Also, take 1 Luck.

Now, you are all at 10 XP, except for the mighty Sanitor.

I'll leave it to you if you'd like to level up as a group now, or wait til the whole thing is over -- there's not much more to go, but it could be as deadly as anything so far...

And I'm inclined to allow Sanitor to level up, too. I think he's shown his mettle and his worth, but I'll leave that for you to decide, Jeff.

____
* The crit was another disarm, but he wasn't armed, so I stepped it down.

** The concept was that the alcohol burns at a low temp; no damage the first round of being exposed, 1 hp damage each round thereafter while exposed. Not generally hard to smother, but you are were all soaked in it!

What do you guys think about leveling up? I can see wanting to get that extra umph from being level 1, but can also see wanting to get through this rapidly. Also, I'm ok not leveling Sanitor since he hasn't been with us from the beginning, though I fear it may limit his longevity.

DING!
Woohoo! I'm all for a quick level up- if everyone agrees. Couple questions:
1. Do we gain the HP from the new HD, heal to full, or.. what?
2. I'd assume that a fledgling wizard still has no spells, of course
3. Any other caveats or preferences?
4. What colour are those cloaks?

Couldn't imagine a reason I'd want to keep Sanitor at level zero. I'm guessing Kylessa is going to be the wizard, she could be a great thief too. If no one wants to run a priest, I'd be willing to roll as one instead of a monk.

1. Roll your new Hit Die (and adjust by Stamina), and that adds to your Zero-level hp. Any points you are down, will have to be healed up... somehow (did someone say Cleric? Anyone...?)

2. A fledgling Wizard may well have something up their sleeve, but it'll be randomized and may not be the 'full' list a Wizard is due.

3. I can't think of much... Spells will be randomized, though Clerics will know their suite of spells. Other than don't take too long to decide and get 'er done; I leave town on Saturday for a bit, and would like to wrap before that point.

The belt has numerous blowgun darts, hence the metallic glint. And lo and behold, he also has a blowgun on him. Never got to use it, though...

I have no idea where it's from, but why not?

And remember, you are proficient with the last weapon you used. All your other 'weapons' are now used with a d16 to attack. Weird, but true.

...unless you become proficient fo to class, right?

Brun Grimmson will carry on in the warrior tradition of his family. Little Kylie was lost along with Gunnar and Lala, and is reborn as Black Kylessa- dabbler in the black arts!

(I rolled up her spells, mercurial effects. and manifestations and PMed them over in case the generous GnomeBoy grants her spontaneous access to any of them (although I wouldn't expect it)

Go for the monk! Either Zeppo or Sanitor will probably be a cleric. Sanitor is the more naturally gifted but it would probably be an old/dubious gods, kind of thing, what with his proclivities.

Right, exactly. You've so far been considered 'proficient' under the extra abstraction of the funnel with everything and anything you pick up, but now you've only got 'expertise' with the last thing you used, plus whatever your chosen Class gives you.
