GnomeBoy wrote:"Demon Dogs! What is this place?" Voorak circles the room as much as space will allow. Wary of inhabitants, and looking for an exit.
So there is one of the odd bulky shapes with blinking lights in front of you, one along the wall to your left and one along the wall to your right. There are gaps between them that go diagonally to the left and another to the right. Which way does Voorak go?

Haha -- can't catch me that easily! "Looking for" ain't "going though"...

That said, any lights down either of these 'gaps'? I'm a sucker for flashing lights...

Kurr the Nomad and Myrna flank Voorak, ready to follow. Myrna reaches out and touches the bulky shape with blinking lights to see if any of the "glowing gems" are loose.

Consoles along the wall both ways, about the same in terms of flashing lights.

Myrna sees numerous lights, little black things sticking up and pointing this way or that, small colored round things about the size of a finger tip that stick up slightly, and small round glass windows with strange markings on the inside. What specifically does she want to do?

Running her hand over the strange bulk, she reaches out to push one of the strangely colored round things...

Ok, give me a luck check please (roll d20, trying to get a number under her luck score).

If she doesn't make it, please roll a d5.

...as she's pushing that button, Voorak is taking steps down the right-hand passage, spear ready, and slowing a bit with each step, sure that something is going to pop up unexpectedly...

There is a clicking sound, and the pattern of lights on the bulky shape changes slightly. Nothing else happens.

Voorak moves about 20' to the southwest (he thinks) between the two strange contraptions. Beyond, more flashing lights beckon from other bulky objects.

Unexpectedly, however, he comes to a 15' diameter circular pillar running from floor to ceiling. The pillar is constructed of the same bright white material that covers the chamber's walls and floor.

He'll have to get closer to examine it further.

Myrna snatches her hand back cautiously. Waving the others in, she and Kurr head down the right tunnel after Voorak. Blackfeet gazes down the left tunnel...

Like steam, but slightly acrid.

fullmentaljacket and Dr. Meat, what are your characters doing?

Willoughby and Dibbon drop down from the vent shaft and examine the mental panel that was covering the grate. Perhaps this might be useful later on, assuming it's light enough to carry.

Either way, the two will follow along with the rest of the group, trailing near the back.

While Kurr and Myrna catch up to Voorak, Blackfeet starts to slip down the left tunnel.
[Does the halfling Blackfeet's infravision reveal anything...unusual?]
Bjorn stays with Grump and the main group, casting a watchful eye back toward Willoughby and Dibbon.

as the other members of the party explore this new area and/or press buttons and flip switches my characters scan the edges of the mist for any threats. (ooc, im giving the other players a chance to take center stage.

No, other than there is a lot of heat in this room... no living things appear under his demihuman gaze. All he sees is more humming consoles with blinking lights.

OOC: BTW, it isn't a tunnel, per se, just a space between bulky objects.

Voorak reaches out cautiously with his off-hand to touch the pillar.

It is smooth and slightly cooler than room temperature.

You notice that on one side of the pillar is a narrow opening measuring about 6" wide and 7' tall. Darkness lies beyond the gap.

A small, shallow circular indentation is also present in the pillar's side a few feet away from the slim opening.

[are the gaps/passages between the bulky objects very narrow, or could a person walk down them easily? Also, does the pillar fill or block this passage?]
Kurr and Myrna move down the right passage. Myrna will hold her torch near the darkened opening and peer in...

There is generally at least a 5' gap between them. A person can walk between them easily.

She can't see much, but there doesn't seem to be anything on the floor in there. Give me an intelligence check please.

Voorak takes one of his iron spikes and traces around and across the indentation.

And when you say 'cooler than room temperature', what is room temperature here? Icy cold? warmish?

Myrna realizes that the "narrow opening measuring about 6" wide and 7' tall" is a sliding door of some kind that has gotten stuck between open and closed.

With some effort, the door might be able to slide open even more.

Nothing happens with the indentation.

Myrna shares her moment of clarity with the tribe...
Myrna, in a loud whisper: "Oh! I think this is a door of some kind! Help me pry it open?"
She holds the torch to try to peer inside. Kurr lays his spear at his feet and grips the door to push it open.
Kurr: "Voorak, be ready! Hrrmph!"
[Kurr Str d20=18 (yes!)]
